Wisdom & Faith

Developing every child's full potential in an outstanding learning environment on their journey in wisdom and faith

St Mary’s is a Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided primary school and nursery for boys and girls aged from 3 to 11. We are situated in the Borough of Lambeth, in the Archdiocese of Southwark, serving the parishes of St. Mary’s, Clapham, St Vincent de Paul, Battersea and St Francis de Sales, Stockwell.

The school is based in Crescent Lane in a Victorian building which retains much of its character and charm and in its more recent purpose built and very sympathetically designed buildings. The school is very well equipped to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum fully suited to the diverse needs of all of its learners. As a Catholic school, the teachings of Christ inform all our efforts and the way in which we treat one another. We live up to our Catholic character through our Mission Statement.

Our mission statement St Mary's School is committed to providing the best possible education for all children and to developing each child's full potential is reflected in and through the daily life of the school. We are highly inclusive with priority placed on the richness of learning for all pupils.

As a Catholic School, our faith and the Gospel values permeate all aspects of our curriculum and of our everyday life here at school, we are fully committed to developing and supporting each child in their faith and relationship with God.

We are proud of our school but recognise that there are always opportunities to develop and improve further. Governors see this appointment as an opportunity to see the school with fresh eyes and are ready to embrace change. We would welcome and support new ideas and insights that would further enhance the educational opportunities offered to our children. We are looking for a candidate who can build on our strong foundations and make changes where needed. As a confident, innovative and inspirational leader, the successful applicant will show that they are able to maintain good relationships throughout the school community and participate fully in the life of the school.

The new Head Teacher has a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine impact. We would welcome applications from experienced Headteachers as well senior leaders looking for their first headship and would support and develop them as they grow into the role.

You will be:

  • A practising Catholic
  • A passionate advocate for the school, willing to work closely with parishes and the community to promote the school and ensure our future viability
  • Able to understand and value our richly diverse community
  • A candidate with a proven track record of implementing change and raising standards in teaching and learning, resulting in measurable whole school improvements, within a consistent, caring, accountable ethos.
  • Someone with passion and enthusiasm for each individual child’s learning and determination to see that each child maximises their full potential
  • Financially astute and aware of the challenges facing schools

If you have the vision, drive and determination to lead St Mary’s and are excited about the rewarding challenge of harnessing its potential, then the Governing Board would be delighted to hear from you.  Visits to the school are encouraged and warmly welcomed.
