Job overview

Nightingale Primary Academy is a new-build, state of the art school situated in the diverse and vibrant community of Harehills in central Leeds. The academy is currently led by an Interim Executive Headteacher who also leads one of the trust’s other primary academies in the area. Now that the academy is established the governors have agreed that this is the time to seek a permanent headteacher.

The Governors are looking to appoint a considered and highly regarded individual who can help to shape and deliver a shared vision for the future. A central pillar of the academy is the co-operative values and principles so it is important that applicants are willing to work with the governors and the trust to weave these through the curriculum and leadership. Two major strengths of the academy are the outstanding staff who are truly committed to the pupils and a local community that wants to be even more involved.

Governors welcome interest from current Headteachers looking to further their career in a very new academy but they also want to encourage applications from talented and ambitious Deputy Headteachers looking for their first headship. The Interim Executive Headteacher will mentor the successful applicant until August 2017. You can read more about the trust at http://co-operative.academy/ where you will also find a link to the academy’s website.

The academy is part of the Co-operative Academies Trust and is sponsored by The co-operative Group, the largest mutual business in the country. The trust is highly regarded and achieves well in various measures, especially for disadvantaged pupils.

Co-op Academy Nightingale is an inspiring place to work and learn and as part of the Co-op Academies Trust, aims to secure excellence in all aspects of its work.

Nightingale is one of twenty-five schools in the Trust, four of which are primary schools within the East Leeds locality. Whilst all schools in the Trust demonstrate a strong commitment to co-operative values and principles, the close proximity of the academies in East Leeds in particular has helped to facilitate co-operation and reinforce our belief that these values and principles are crucially important. It is therefore vital that applicants are willing to fully embrace these, embedding them into the learning experiences for pupils and using them to drive up academic standards further. The Trust is a successful and highly collaborative partnership of schools committed to raising the educational ambitions of the communities which it serves.

The academy has many strengths including the dedicated staff who are truly committed to the pupils, their families and the community, an Ofsted ‘Good’ judgement, and countless wonderful, hardworking and inspiring pupils. We are also fortunate to have the support of one of the most supportive co-operative Trusts in the country.

What makes our Trust unique is that we are sponsored by the Co-op Group. That close relationship means that we benefit from all of the business expertise that has seen the Co-op grow to one of the most respected, ethically driven and successful businesses in the country.

To date the Trust comprises of twenty-five institutions and spans the breadth of the educational spectrum, from primary and secondary academies, to colleges and special schools. Pragmatic in our approach to growth, we work closely and cooperatively to improve all of our academies.

Improving results and impressive Ofsted inspections have led to schools requesting to join the Trust which is now well on its way to realising its ambition of forty academies by 2022. We look forward to the opportunities that this will bring to our staff, young people and communities.
