Job overview

Trinity Church of England High is a forward thinking, diverse, creative and caring academy in Manchester with almost 1300 on roll. Until recently the school was designated as 11-16 but in September 2016 its new sixth form provision, with capacity for 300 young people, was opened. There are currently 60 in the sixth form with demand already high for places in September 2017. The school is now recruiting for a new Headteacher who has the ambition and determination to build on its many strengths, including recent designation as a Teaching School and full International School status, and provide the strategic vision and dynamic leadership to drive further improvement.

Trinity is an extremely popular choice amongst parents/carers and students and has an excellent reputation locally and beyond. This was reflected in its recent Ofsted (2014) and SIAMS inspections which both graded the school as Outstanding in all areas. Examination results are on an upward trajectory and are well above local and national averages. The school also offers a vast range of activities beyond the classroom and holds the highest curriculum awards for sport, the arts and Religious Education.

The school is in a unique location close to Manchester city centre and in close proximity to universities and hospitals. It has recently completed a £21.5million investment into its buildings and IT provision, as well as the new sixth form centre, providing a bright, motivational and inspirational location and learning environment. Most importantly it has a talented and committed staff who value their own professional development and consistently demonstrate the ability to embrace change and innovation and who are motivated to work with the new Headteacher and to be a part of the school’s continuing development and success.

The school promotes the values of the Church of England while welcoming students of other Christian denominations and different faiths. The school values all of its students and the aim is to provide a Christian environment in which the young people are safe, secure, cared for and happy, and are able to develop into articulate, confident and well qualified citizens of the world. If you are a full and active member of a church in membership of, or sharing the statement of belief of, Churches Together in England this is an outstanding opportunity to build on the schools many strengths, maximise the potential offered by the recent changes and ensure all of our students receive an outstanding educational experience.

You must be an experienced senior leader in a secondary setting, with a successful track record of sustained improvement, and a determination to maximise the opportunities available at Trinity. You must either have experience of, or a detailed understanding of, the additional complexities of education in a culturally diverse community. You will be highly motivated, driven, and have an in-depth knowledge of excellence in secondary education, a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and should not only have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are achieved. You will need a ‘can-do’ attitude that inspires and engages students, parents/carers and staff alike. You must display compassion, be familiar with holding staff to account and also being accountable for outcomes. Fundamental to your educational philosophy is a conviction that every decision you make should be focused on improving the learning and developing the potential of each student in your care.

Working At Trinity CE High School

“Faith in the City, Value in People, Excellence in Education”

Trinity’s most recent full Ofsted Inspection took place in November 2023, and we were judged ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ in every category. The most recent National Society (Anglican) Inspection, in November 2023, assessed Trinity in the highest category lavishing praise on the strong relationships in the school.

We have a good reputation for supporting the needs of students, providing excellent pastoral and academic support. Systems are kept simple so that students are clear about staff expectations regarding behaviour and that it is their responsibility to make the right choices. Teachers are fully supported, with students quickly removed by Senior Leadership for lack of respect or inattentiveness. As a result, students at Trinity are well behaved and there is a positive atmosphere in the school. Staff in all locations and posts work hard, support one another and enjoy the intrinsic rewards of working in a well-respected and oversubscribed school.

Staff work well together at Trinity and enjoy attending staff social events. There is a regular staff quiz on Wednesday lunch-times and a staff football team plays every Friday after school. Staff are encouraged to take part in the school play and join in musical productions. We have a well-equipped fitness suite which is free for staff to use outside of school hours and during school holidays. Staff are eligible to apply for the school’s childcare voucher scheme and cycle to work scheme.

Twice weekly staff briefings are held, along with regular staff meetings, departmental and team meetings and teaching staff have access to weekly development time and on-going CPD sessions. There is a well-established and comprehensive programme of support for newly qualified teaching staff, and this has been singled out as a key strength during on-going reviews of our mentoring practices.

The school has a great location, close to the city centre and able to capitalise on its proximity to both universities, the Science Park, theatres, galleries and museums, the Royal Northern College of Music, the Aquatics Centre and Sports City.

Trinity benefited from a £21.5 million Wave 4 BSF Buildings & ICT Investment, which comprised an 80% rebuild and 15% modernisation. Work was completed in the summer of 2011 and the new school was formally opened by the Archbishop of York in September 2011. We became a converter academy the following year. Trinity is now able to offer an outstanding 21st century education to its 1400 students.

The latest capital development, the £3 million brand new Trinity Sixth Form Centre, opened in September 2016, and will have a capacity of 240 students, eventually taking the school student population up to 1460. Following the opening of the Sixth Form, we had a one day Ofsted inspection in October 2017 and received confirmation that the school continues to be ‘outstanding’, including the Sixth Form.

School departments are well resourced, which has enabled us to combine the best of tradition with innovative practice. The school’s excellent sports facilities comprise a sports hall, fitness suite, gymnasium, dance studio, full size floodlit artificial pitch and floodlit 3G multi-sport courts. The sports centre assists our links with the community.

Have a look at our video clip to get a feel for our school site and facilities and visit our school website to access our weekly newsletters, our Ofsted Report and School Performance Tables and find out more about our school, our students, our results and our activities.

If appointed we look forward to welcoming you to Trinity and helping you to make the most of your valuable knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for your own self development and the good of the students, the school, colleagues and the wider school community.
