Job overview

Burrowmoor School is a two form entry, co-educational primary school with circa 452 pupils on roll, located in March in the Isle of Ely area of Cambridgeshire. The school converted to academy status in 2013, joining the Active Learning Trust, a MAT currently comprised of 17 schools arranged as 3 hubs based in Ipswich, Lowestoft and Cambridgeshire.

Formerly a good school, Burrowmoor was placed in special measures in March 2015. A relentless focus on improvement led to a Requires Improvement judgement at its last Ofsted inspection in November 2016. To maintain progress an Executive Headteacher, who is also the Principal of the local Active Learning Trust secondary academy has been appointed. Following the departure of Burrowmoor’s current Head, the trust is now looking to appoint a Headteacher to:

  • Provide the inspirational leadership that will motivate children and staff to achieve their full potential
  • Establish a clear vision for continuous improvement that both builds on the school’s strengths and successes and introduces rapid change where needed
  • Set the highest expectations for the quality of learning and teaching enabling all children to develop a passion for learning
  • Direct and empower the senior leadership teams within Burrowmoor and across the local Trust schools to achieve their school improvement objectives

Currently a Headteacher or an outstanding Deputy, you have a demonstrable track record of raising standards and the ambition, skills and experience to lead a school offering challenge and opportunity in equal measure. An innovative leader and a hands on operational manager, you possess a deep understanding of curriculum development and teaching and learning. You have the ability to galvanise and motivate staff and students, enthuse parents and carers and raise the profile of your school within its local community.

In return for your energy, integrity and enthusiasm, we offer you the opportunity to lead a popular, over-subscribed and well-resourced school with fantastic children and excellent facilities for the age-range. You will receive support and challenge from a highly regarded academy trust, which is committed to achieving excellence in educational delivery and student attainment. At the same time you will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to a number of exciting Trust-wide school improvement initiatives on coaching, leadership, teaching, learning and assessment.
