Job overview

Aragon Primary School is seeking an inspirational and dedicated Headteacher to lead our vibrant school community and drive the next phase of our improvement journey. This vacancy has arisen following the planned retirement of the current Headteacher, who has served the school with distinction for five years as Deputy Headteacher and five years as Headteacher.

We are looking for a highly motivated and strategic leader with the vision, passion, and energy to continue strengthening our provision and ensuring an environment in which both pupils and staff can thrive.

Your Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to take on a key leadership role within a highly successful and collaborative Trust. As Headteacher, you will receive full support from the CEO, the Senior Leadership Team, and fellow Headteachers within both the Trust and the wider local network.

This role is suitable for a current Headteacher or an exceptional Deputy Headteacher with strong leadership skills and the drive to take the next step in their career. The Trust is committed to supporting the successful candidate through individualised mentoring and professional guidance from the CEO. We offer a supportive and forward‑thinking environment in which you can grow as a leader and make a significant and lasting difference to the lives of our pupils.

Should you wish to arrange a visit to the school please contact Samantha Pennelli, HR Manager, by email spi@willowlearningtrust.org.uk

We hope our post is of interest to you and we hear from you soon.

Aragon Primary School is a highly regarded, three-form entry school set in spacious grounds on the border of Merton and Sutton. With 630 pupils and a thriving Nursery, we are a vibrant, inclusive school community committed to providing outstanding opportunities for both children and staff.

At Aragon, staff are valued, supported, and encouraged to grow. Our motto “To be the best we can be!” applies just as much to our adults as it does to our children. We believe that a motivated, respected, and inspired staff team is essential to delivering the highest standards of education.

At Aragon we strive to create an environment where:

  • Every child is able to reach their full potential
  • A love of learning is nurtured and celebrated
  • Inclusion sits at the heart of all we do
  • Children are encouraged to show responsibility, leadership, and a sense of contribution to society

Our broad and deep curriculum reflects our belief that education should be rich, ambitious, and accessible to all learners.

Aragon Primary School has been led by Mrs Clare Ryder, Headteacher since September 2021, who is committed to developing a positive, collaborative staff culture. Staff at all stages of their careers are supported through:

  • Meaningful professional development
  • Opportunities to take on responsibility and leadership
  • A culture of reflection, teamwork, and continuous improvement

As a three-form entry school, Aragon offers the benefit of strong year‑group collaboration, shared planning, and mutual support, within school and from other school in the Trust.  Staff work closely together, sharing expertise and celebrating success in a genuinely collegial environment.

Joining Aragon Primary School means becoming part of a community that is forward‑thinking, caring, and ambitious for both its pupils and its staff.
