Job overview

A Jesuit School where children are honoured, cared for and believed in

Donhead is a thriving Roman Catholic independent school for boys (4-11 years, roll 324) under the trusteeship of the Society of Jesus. In September 2016, the school completed an £8m 10 year building programme.

The Governors seek to appoint a practising Roman Catholic, fully committed to the Jesuit ethos of the school in succession to the current Head who is retiring. This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspirational leader to further develop the character and vision of the school. This post could be your chance to make a real difference and would be ideal for a first-time Headship or for an experienced Head wanting to take on a new challenge.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the distinctive nature of Catholic education and will have recent experience in a senior role in the independent or maintained sector. He/she will be able to articulate a vision of primary education within the context of the mission of a Catholic school to promote the highest standards of management, teaching and pastoral care. The ability to represent and market the school in the wider community will also be essential. You will be a strong leader with excellent interpersonal skills, able to galvanise staff, parents and pupils with your vision of excellence across all aspects of the school.

We can offer:

  • a warm welcome from our vibrant community
  • bright, engaged and happy pupils who enjoy learning and behave well, committed and supportive colleagues who encourage innovation and creativity, and a very engaged parents group
  • a fully supportive and active governing body with a wide range of skills
  • a well resourced and financially stable school
  • a remuneration package up to £100k

Visits to the school for prospective candidates are both recommended and warmly welcomed. Even if you have not been considering a move, why not come and visit us to find out more about this great opportunity to be a leader in our community.

School visits: by appointment. Contact Emma Fletcher to book.

Closing Date: 9am Monday 30th January 2017
Interview: Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th February 2017

About Donhead Preparatory School

A Jesuit School where children are honoured, cared for and believed in

We believe in ‘cura personalis’ – development of the whole person. Each child will experience this differently, based around their interests, talents, choices and personality, but all will benefit from this approach. While academic performance is important, learning and personal growth extends far beyond the classroom at Donhead.

Donhead School is embarking on an exciting phase of development as it transitions to co-education from September 2024.  We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where pupils can excel and develop important life skills.
