Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior leader, with the vision, ambition, and drive, to take on the Headship of a highly successful secondary stand-alone academy. Staff and students fully embrace the motto Aspire, Believe, Achieve.

Ousedale School is a large 11 – 18 Secondary school with 2200 students based on two campuses 8 miles apart: 11- 18 campus based on the outskirts of Milton Keynes in Newport Pagnell and 11-16 campus based in rural Olney, a delightful market town, with 600 students.

Progress and attainment at each campus is very strong and the school is heavily over-subscribed, receiving each year over 750 applications for 360 places. There are 400 students in the 6th form.

Pastoral systems and behaviour routines are fully embedded and students are proud to wear their uniform. Our Ofsted visit in January 2020 confirmed the school was still good with significant areas outstanding.

Music is a strong part of school culture; the school admits up to 10% of students each year for musical aptitude. Student leadership, productions, enrichment, and trips are a strong feature of the school, in normal times, with on average 33 trips to all corners of the globe taking place each year.

We can offer you:

  • An attractive salary with all staff having the opportunity to earn a bonus of up to 3% when they have reached the top of their scale, in addition to annual pay rise
  • Strong senior and middle leadership
  • A school of high staff morale, drive, determination and willingness to go the extra mile
  • Experienced and supportive governing board

You will need to offer us:

  • Recent substantive successful experience of senior leadership
  • Evidence of being able to think strategically and implement policy to drive a school forward
  • Possess highly developed analytical skills which are used to formulate policy and solve complex problems
  • Passion for the education of the whole child through ensuring all students receive a broad high-quality educational experience
  • Enthusiasm, drive and commitment

Ousedale School is a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school situated on two campuses in attractive grounds in Newport Pagnell and Olney, to the north of Milton Keynes. We serve a partially rural catchment area. There are 2000 pupils on roll, including a Sixth Form of 400. Newport Pagnell campus accommodates 1600 11-18 pupils and Olney campus 600 11-16 pupils. Sixth Form courses for pupils from both campuses are based at Newport Pagnell.

Vision

"All young people leave Ousedale ready to succeed in life. As effective learners they will acquire the character, experiences, knowledge, skills and qualifications which will enable them to thrive and lead successful, happy lives."

We will meet the words of our motto, ‘Be Kind, Work Hard, Succeed Together’.

We have an absolute belief that all children can and will succeed through becoming successful learners. We have received a number of national awards not only for our academic success, but also for our success in the field of music education. Recent honours include 4 national awards for progress and attainment at GCSE and A level, placing our results in the top 20% of schools nationally, and a local award for achieving the best results for disadvantaged children in Milton Keynes. Additionally, the school’s Sixth Form regularly achieves the highest proportion of the top A*/B grades in the region. We endeavour to remain in the top 20% of school’s nationally in everything we do.

However, proud as we are of our academic excellence, Ousedale offers much more to the pupils who join our thriving community.

Outstanding pastoral care is the norm, and extensive extra-curricular and enrichment programmes are an integral part of our curriculum. You will no doubt read our latest Ofsted report, but we would draw your attention to one line in particular that we are incredibly proud of: “This is a school where, as one pupil put it, ‘everyone is included’.” We look forward to welcoming you into the Ousedale family.
