MLC Prep in Nairobi, Kenya have asked Teacherhorizons to lead the search for an inspiring inaugural Headteacher.
Opportunity
Spring boarding off the success of the Montessori Learning Centre Kindergarten in Nairobi, MLC Prep is due to open its doors in September 2019.
Created within a beautiful natural setting of the forest, with purpose-built classrooms (including outdoor learning spaces, courtyards and learning patios), and state-of-the-art facilities, children will undertake a holistic curriculum, following the structure of a British Curriculum education underpinned by the Montessori principles.
The school requires an energetic, forward thinking, creative and very adaptable and supportive Head of School to join the team and lead the school forward.
The position has a January 2019 start date although this is flexible for the right person.
MLC Prep
MLC Prep has a vision of combining the Montessori ethos of self-directed, hands on learning and collaborative play, with the British curriculum to give children a holistic education. They will open with 3 years groups (Year 2 - Year 4) in 2019, with a further 4 year groups (up to Year 8) opening in 2020.

Nairobi, known as the ‘green city in the sun’ is the political, economic and cultural heart of East Africa. Kenya more generally offers beautiful beaches, wonderful opportunities for travel and ‘safaris’ and a warm and friendly population (who speak very good English). The expat community continues to grow and there are plenty of opportunities for both individuals and families.
How to apply
All candidates must be fully qualified teachers with both Bachelors and Masters degrees. Working knowledge of the British primary curriculum is essential and experience of the Montessori method highly desirable. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience with at least 2 at Headship level, and experience in, amongst other things, management, finance, budgeting, recruitment, curriculum design and implementation. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the right person.
