Job overview

The London Academy of Excellence is seeking an inspirational leader to head one of the highest-performing sixth form schools in the country at a particularly exciting phase of its evolution. Located in Stratford and known as 'the academic school for independent thinkers', LAE achieves a unique combination of exceptional academic standards and positive social impact. The substantial majority of students come from under-resourced homes, yet progress to the most competitive universities and degree-level apprenticeships in greater numbers than from almost any comparable school. With the active support of partner schools including Eton College and Brighton College, and generous philanthropic support from lead community partner Latham & Watkins, the school has established itself as a beacon of progressive education and social mobility.

This September, LAE relocates to brand new, purpose-built facilities and expands its student roll to 750, meeting overwhelming demand from aspirational applicants. The new Head will take over a school with a strong sense of mission, an effective and stable leadership team, invested teaching faculty, corporate partners, and the support of a highly engaged board. We are looking for a dynamic and responsive individual who is a superb communicator, an ambassador who can court philanthropy, someone who will determine strategy in conjunction with any political changes in the sector, and someone with business sense who will do everything to enhance the lives of our young people.

We welcome applications from both the maintained and independent sectors from those who share LAE's commitment to its mission, values and educational philosophy.
