Job overview

Brayton C of E Primary School is located to the South of Selby in the county of North Yorkshire. Its proximity to the M62, for travel to Leeds and Hull, and being on the A19, for Doncaster and York, make Brayton an attractive place to live and work. Selby is an area of growth with a number of new housing developments, which should increase pupil numbers over time. A school has recently opened on one of the new housing estates taking a small number of pupils from our school.

Currently, we are rated as Good by Ofsted (2013) and Outstanding by SIAMS (2016).

A two-form entry school with 14 classes plus a nursery, we have a distinctive Christian ethos and offer our pupils a great deal of wider opportunities through extra-curricular clubs, residentials, visits and special curriculum enrichment days. Our motto “together we shine as one” is at the core of our school culture and ensures that staff, pupils, parents, governors and the wider community work together in partnership.

We are seeking to appoint a strong and resilient leader with the vision to shape our improvement plan, raise standards across the school and oversee the continued development of teaching and learning. You will also work to raise expectations throughout the school community, improve communications, particularly with parents, and provide stability at a time of change.

Clearly, there will be challenges to embrace but we feel we are very well placed to build on our successes. You must possess the vision to see these challenges, develop a clear view and positively embrace any changes required while actively setting and achieving high standards. This will require a positive, determined, clear and focused mind-set and the ability to engage, manage and enthuse staff. Your ability to analyse data and oversee budgets, ensuring they stay on track, is essential.

If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you.

We very much welcome school visits. If you’d like the opportunity to visit, please contact the school office on 01757 704 308 or email: admin@brayton-pri.n-yorks.sch.uk to arrange a visit.

Our location provides us with an excellent access to the North Yorkshire countryside as well as to major road and rail links both locally to Leeds and York, to London and the rest of the country.

Closing Date: Midnight, Sunday 7 January
Shortlisting: Wednesday 10 January
Assessment Event: Monday 22 & Tuesday 23 January
