Job overview

This new federation presents an excellent opportunity for a headteacher to lead, shape and influence the future and ensure continued success of two distinctive rural primary schools.

Located in the Scarborough District of North Yorkshire, Hackness and Wykeham Church Schools Federation comprises two schools with a clear vision of raising standards and providing a rich and creative learning environment.

The schools are recognised locally as welcoming, happy and caring places. Their Church school ethos is captured in their commitment to follow the teachings of Jesus by:

  •  Respecting and caring for each other and our environment
  • Creating a brilliant place for learning, living and growing
  • Encouraging each other to work hard, to enjoy and achieve in all that we do
  • Upholding our schools’ values of thankfulness, compassion, respect, responsibility, trust and friendship.

The schools were led into federation in 2016 by the current outstanding headteacher who retires this year. Each brings its own strengths which they are now able to share including both schools now being Forest Schools. The schools are at the heart of their communities and value their relationships with the parents and churches.

Able to effectively motivate, inspire and influence pupils, staff and stakeholders across the federation and have the credibility to do so, you will assume responsibility for all aspects of school life including the management of multi-year groups. This will include developing a leadership structure and team for the federation, driving forward curriculum innovation and change to meet changing national expectations of pupil progress and performance.

To succeed, you must have proven leadership and management skills with an understanding of the needs and demands of church schools and the ability to develop and inspire a small team. An excellent communicator, you must also have a strategic approach to obtaining resources to implement plans and initiatives.

In return, we can offer you support from a strong governing body, the opportunity to influence the development of the federation and commitment to your continued professional development.
