'Inspire, Motivate, Achieve'

Headteacher – Required for a September OR January start

Full-time - permanent

Group 7 - Salary: L33-L39 (£85,579 - £98,100)

Wollaston School is a large, over-subscribed, 11 to 18 mixed community school, situated in rural Northamptonshire, about 15 minutes’ drive from Northampton. There are currently 1433 students on roll, including 270 in the Sixth Form.

OFSTED Report 24 April 2017: Good.

‘The pupils inspectors met with were polite, articulate and keen to tell us about their school. They told us that behaviour is almost always very good and that poor behaviour affects their learning only rarely. In the lessons visited by inspectors, the strong relationships between staff and pupils made a very positive contribution to pupils’ learning. The pupils were motivated, well behaved and keen to join in discussions about their work.’

Of the 158 parents who completed the Ofsted questionnaire… 94% agreed or strongly agreed with the statement ‘My child is happy at the school’, and 92% indicated that they would recommend the school to other parents.

Recent examination results have been excellent. Our GCSE outcomes have risen 14% in terms of A*-C attainment measure in the last two years and Progress 8 measures have also been above national outcomes.  A-level results are equally strong and about 80 of our students’ progress on to study at higher education level each year, ranging from local universities to ‘Oxbridge’ and Russell Group universities.

Resources across the school are excellent, with several recently refurbished teaching blocks, including a £1.2 million new science block which opened in November 2014 and extended and refurbished Learning Resources Centre which opened in October 2016.

The Governing Body took the decision in 2015 to become a Multi-Academy Trust, working in partnership with some of our main primary feeder schools and work has begun on this project. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will bring this work to fruition.

Due to the retirement of the current Headteacher in summer 2017, the governors are looking to appoint an experienced, dynamic, inspirational leader. The successful candidate will be dedicated to raising the quality of teaching, learning and achievement for all of our students and to lead the school on its journey to become an exceptional school.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Significant leadership experience in secondary education, either at Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher level;
  • A strong proven track record of outstanding leadership and management;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire and lead to the continual development of staff and students;
  • Demonstrable ability to operate effectively at a strategic level, with all key school stakeholders, successfully modelling and disseminating our shared vision, both in school and within the wider community.
