“Achieving excellence by challenging boundaries”

Inclusivity and integration are central themes of our school, and we are fortunate to be co-located with Springfield Special School. This adds a unique dimension to the headteacher role at Madley Brook.

We are looking for a supportive and inspirational headteacher to embrace our commitment to staff and pupil wellbeing. Our new headteacher will also lead our school improvement agenda, accelerate progress for all our children, and work alongside the River Learning Trust. It is an exciting time to get involved.

Our original intention was to appoint in time for a September 2020 start. This has not been possible due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. We are now reopening applications with a view to secure a new headteacher for January 2021.

What we can offer:

Our school is part of the River Learning Trust; our collective vision is to be a Trust where pupils and staff thrive in schools which demonstrate:

•all-round education, academic success, lifelong learning and strength of character

•sustainable continuous improvement; no school standing still

•all schools being good and outstanding, or improving rapidly

•collaboration that is raising standards, and reducing workload

• where pupils, staff, parents and communities value all we do to support the best possible outcomes and experiences for our children and young people

Key dates for your diary:

Friday 11 September: closing date for applications (5pm)

Tuesday 22 September and Wednesday 23 September: interviews

Candidates are strongly encouraged to communicate with our school before submitting their application. This may be a video call or a visit depending on prevailing government advice. Please contact the school office on 01993 862976 or office.2002@madley-brook.oxon.sch.uk to make an appointment.

Applications are to be made online via the TES Link

Please use the supporting statement in the application form to outline why you would like to be the next headteacher at Madley Brook Primary School, explaining how your existing skills, knowledge and experience meet the requirements as set out in the person specification.

Shortlisted candidates will be advised on the structure of the interview days, along with the relevant tasks and activities via email by Tuesday 15 September 2020. Further shortlisting will take place at the end of the first interview day.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Madley Brook School and The River Learning Trust are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and preventing extremism.  All staff are expected to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. The River Learning Trust is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from a range of backgrounds to represent diversity in line with our schools’ community.

Welcome to Madley Brook Community Primary School. Our school has a very clear vision at its heart:

‘Achieving excellence by challenging boundaries’

Our aim is to value each pupil. To provide learning opportunities that will develop the whole child. We will encourage them to have limitless aspirations, to have a passion for learning and to enjoy life and above all, have a sense of fun.

Our vision and aims are intricately thread through the lifeblood of the school – through the lessons that we teach, the activities we undertake and the additional opportunities that we offer to each child.

The school works alongside Springfield Special School. Both schools are based on the site known as The Bronze Barrow chosen to reflect the historical nature of the area. The schools are built around the site of a Bronze Age burial ground, hence, the horseshoe shape of the building. The two schools co-exist yet maintain their own individual identities, staff, governing bodies and pupils.
