Job overview

A unique opportunity has arisen to lead our innovative and successful school which is located in the market town of Richmond. Set against a backdrop of an 11th Century castle overlooking the beautiful River Swale, there are excellent nearby road and rail access to all major routes.

The School has a rich heritage dating back to 1392 – yet a recent multi-million pound BSF investment has created outstanding facilities for education in the 21st century.

We sit at the heart of, and share many outstanding links with our local Community.

With 1,460 pupils, including a sixth form of 270, we are a large Local Authority community school which is currently progressing towards academy status within a Multi- Academy setting.

As Headteacher you will be responsible for leading Richmond School & Sixth Form College to build on its high standards and academic achievements. You will have a significant track record as a leader and manager and a sound understanding of the demands and skills required to maintain excellent education in a non-selective setting. You will be highly driven, dedicated, passionate and ambitious for the future of all our students.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection (January 2017), inspectors found:

· The strong leadership of the headteacher and senior leaders has created a culture in which everyone can succeed;

· Teachers who are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their subjects, are respected by pupils and have high expectations for all pupils;

· Pupils who are keen to do well and to succeed in their learning, who are polite, courteous and respect one another and their school;

About Richmond School and Sixth Form College

About Richmond School

Richmond School is situated on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, based in the market town of Richmond.   In December 2017 we converted to academy status and were delighted to join the Arete Learning Trust.

This is certainly an exciting time in the history of Richmond School; a history that goes back nearly 700 years.  With the recent refurbishment and new building, teachers and students now have facilities that rank as some of the best in the country, including subject classrooms and bases that are in close proximity to each other.

There are approximately 1325 students on roll with 238 in the Sixth Form.

Following an Ofsted visit (January 2017) it was confirmed that we continue to be a good school, with leadership and management, and behaviour and safety, all deemed as ‘Good’. Our goal now is to push on towards becoming a truly outstanding school.

The Wider School Community

Richmond School is situated approximately four miles from the A1(M) at the northern end of the extensive county of North Yorkshire.  It is an extremely attractive market town in part of what has become known as ‘Herriot Country’.  Richmond itself has all the services of a market town and is within easy reach of Darlington and Teesside, with Newcastle and Leeds each less than an hour’s drive away.  The nearby railway town of Darlington is on the main East Coast line between Edinburgh and London, whilst the Dales area itself has a rich rural and industrial heritage.  Musicians, thespians, walkers, potholers, campers, historians and many other interest groups find Richmond to be an ideal base.

Over thirty-five primary schools contribute to the School’s Year 7 intake.
