Job overview

Headteacher
Start date: September 2020 or April 2020 if possible
Salary: L35 – L42 (£91223 - £109383). Starting salary negotiable dependant on experience.

Kingsway Park High School in Rochdale opened in 2009 and with the upcoming retirement of its current Headteacher, is looking to recruit a new Headteacher who can harness its many strengths and lead the next exciting phase of its development.

KPHS is a progressive, inclusive and over-subscribed 11-16 comprehensive school with a growing role which is currently at 1220. The school is in a bright and modern building, very close to junction 21 of the M62, which benefitted from a further new annex last year to support its growth. The school serves a community with a number of challenges, including a significant number of ‘disadvantaged’ students and International New Arrivals. The care and support offered to students is outstanding and there is a clear moral purpose and shared commitment to ensuring that students' aspirations and futures are highly successful and prosperous.  Significant emphasis is placed on enabling students to be ready to learn every day and aspire to ambitious futures, so they can be the very best that they can be.

KPHS was last inspected in 2017 when it was graded as ‘Good’ with ‘the capacity to go on improving’. The dedicated, skilled and highly effective staff team are hungry for that improvement. They are committed to ensuring the many needs of the students continue to be met but are also focussed on the need to improve standards across the school so that high quality teaching and learning drives improvement in student achievement and progress.

This is an exciting time for the school and for the new Headteacher. The Trustees recognise the challenges that lie ahead and are looking to appoint a new Headteacher who shares their values, optimism and drive.  That leader will harness the significant strengths of the school, confidently building on current achievements and leading it into an even more successful future.  At present KPHS is a Trust school and Trustees are looking to explore opportunities within the Academy landscape, as they believe the school has much to offer; the new Headteacher will play a key role in shaping this future destination.

If you are a dynamic and experienced senior leader in a secondary setting, this role offers you an outstanding opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment.  You must have a successful track record of sustained improvement and a determination to maximise the opportunities available. You will be highly motivated and energetic with the ability to find innovative ways to improve performance resulting in the highest quality of teaching and learning. You will have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change together with the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached.  You will have a positive attitude that will strengthen and build partnerships within the community and motivate students and staff.  Whilst displaying compassion and understanding, you will be skilled at holding staff to account and be accustomed to personal accountability for student outcomes and all aspects of your work.  Above all you will ensure that the young people, their learning and developing their potential remains at the heart of all decisions.
