Job overview

Headteacher:  ISR 18-24, £59,857 to £68,643 plus a discretionary payment of £12,325 p.a. for managing the Local Authority's medical needs outreach service and the Sheffield Children's Hospital Education Team (SLA subject to annual review).

Required from January 2018.

The Governors of Becton School (rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2015) invite applications from talented, energetic and versatile educationalists with good school leadership credentials who would relish the opportunity to demonstrate their management and organisational skills by sustaining the strong reputation of our over-subscribed school and guiding it to the next stage of its development.

The expansion of the school in recent years reflects its esteem in the eyes of parents, peers and local authority officers, coupled with the readiness of school leaders and our skilled and committed staff team to take on new challenges. It also means that the nature of the school has changed significantly along with the services that it provides.

This means that we now provide a wide range of learning experiences to a diverse pupil population aged from 5-18 in four separate locations in Sheffield, two of which are NHS sites. Each site has its own unique character adapted to provide a safe, secure and encouraging environment for learners. The ability to travel between sites is essential.

Some pupils have complex learning profiles, but the majority follow a mainstream curriculum, so while experience of special education is not deemed essential, an understanding of the secondary curriculum will be helpful. Good communication skills are necessary, not least for engaging with parents and carers, but also with numerous external bodies including mainstream schools.

In light of this, the successful candidate is likely to be creative, flexible and personable with the capacity to inspire and motivate others, and resilient enough to drive through change where required.

We thoroughly recommend that you visit our website at www.becton.sheffield.sch.uk and take advantage of two opportunities to see the school in action by visiting us at The Kenwood Centre, 2 Clifford Road, Sheffield, S11 9AQ (tel. 0114 255 7679) at 1pm. on Tuesday, 10th October or 10am on Thursday 12th October.

Applicants should complete the attached Sheffield City Council application form and return it to hrs-sheffield@capita-services.co.uk with the title Becton School Headteacher application in the email.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and the Police Act Regulations.

Applications Close: Midnight on 15th October, 2017

Selection process: 23rd - 24th October 2017
