Job overview

HEADTEACHER

L33 – L39 (£86,435 - £100,072)

For 1 September 2018

We are looking for an experienced, innovative strategic leader with a proven record of securing positive outcomes for students.  You must have the ability to motivate, inspire and empower staff members and young people alike and build upon the success of our retiring Headteacher to lead Meadowhead on the next stage of its journey.  The school has many strengths which include:

  • Meadowhead School Academy Trust is a popular and successful school with an inclusive, positive ethos, a sustained record of academic success, high standards of behaviour and excellent pastoral reputation.
  • We have delivered Sixth Form teaching since 2010 and gained full 11-18 status in 2013. In November 2017 we opened a new purpose built Sixth Form Centre to enhance the learning of our 220 students on roll in years 12 and 13.
  • The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum and has an inclusive ethos, encouraging aspiration, achievement and progression for all students in the community.
  • The school has well qualified specialist subject teachers covering all curriculum areas, supported by committed and experienced teams of support staff.
  • The school has been very effectively managed within a limited budget and has a healthy financial position.  The proposed National Funding Formula would give an increase in the budget of 12.5%, phased over four years.
  • We have high expectations of ourselves and our students and welcome colleagues who share our commitment to continuous improvement and doing the best for every student.

Meadowhead became an elective academy in August 2012 which enabled to school to make significant strides forward, including the establishment of the Sixth Form.  The new opened Sixth Form Centre is a statement of intent for the school and the community.  The school also leads the Meadowhead Community Learning Trust which links the local primary schools, colleges, two universities and over twenty local and national businesses.

With the ongoing curriculum and other statutory changes the Governors are reviewing the strategic direction for the school.  Currently they are considering an invitation to join in partnership with the Chorus Education Trust, a locally based multi-academy trust.

This role would offer a new challenge to a Headteacher or Head of School with a proven track record or an experienced and successful Deputy Headteacher.  You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the school and have a strong record of school improvement.

Our school is at the heart of the community and as the new Headteacher, you will forge close links with parents and carers as well as the school’s wider stakeholders. In this, and every other aspect you will be supported by a cohesive and motivated team of staff and a dedicated governing body who will support you to drive forward with further school improvements.

You are encouraged to visit the school to judge for yourself the excellent provision we have.  If you wish to do so, please contact Ms J Kelsey on kelseyj@meadowhead.sheffield.sch.uk

As you would expect, the school is committed to the safeguarding of our children and young people and expects all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Therefore, an enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Proposed dates for assessment and interview:  18 – 20 April 2018

Closing date:    12 March 2018 at 9.00am

Further details about the school are available from the school’s website at www.meadowhead.sheffield.sch.uk

Completed forms should be returned to the school marked for the attention of Ms J Kelsey and e-mailed directly to: applications@meadowhead.sheffield.sch.uk

Values and vision

At Meadowhead our vision is to make a difference to the lives of our young people. Through excellence and continual improvement, we aim to be the best we can possibly be for our current and future students. We are determined that all our students achieve their full potential and leave us as confident, compassionate and articulate individuals to grow and prosper in the 21st century.

We work in partnership with others to equip students with the skills, attitudes and qualifications needed to lead fulfilling lives and to become responsible adults. Through a skilfully planned curriculum, enrichment experiences, high standards in teaching and pastoral care we fully prepare our students for entrance to further and higher education, high quality employment and the future careers of their choice.

Our ambition is to develop and nurture young people to become well rounded individuals with the characteristics to contribute fully to society with a strong sense of civic responsibility. We want to ensure that our students are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to influence change and to improve their own lives, their local community and the planet. We aim to inspire young people to live sustainable lives and develop the green skills to tackle both the causes and the impact of climate change resulting in better futures for all.

The House System

When students start at Meadowhead, they and the rest of their form group are allocated a house: Sharman, Pearson, Douglass and Brearley. Each of the houses are named after inspirational figures who have made a difference in their chosen field or discipline. Students compete as houses in events like Sports Day and for the annual Rewards Cup. The names of each figurehead was chosen during the 2021-22 academic year during a public consultation with students, staff, local residents and alumni. As students transition into the Sixth Form, students keep their house as they move to their new specialist form.

Continuing Professional Development

We have a strong programme of CPD for all staff.

Staff benefits now include enrolment onto the enhanced package for Smartclinic which provides occupational health and well-being support for all employees.
