Job overview

Mylnhurst Preparatory School and Nursery is a co-educational day school for 200 children aged 3-11, located in South West Sheffield. The school has a proud history and tradition which sits comfortably alongside its modern and forward-thinking values and ambitions. There is a clear commitment to excellence in everything it does. The Board of Directors is now looking to appoint a new Headteacher with the ambition, creativity and skill set to build on the school’s many strengths and provide the strategic leadership that will take it to the next level.

The school is proud of its outstanding academic success which has resulted in it being the top performing school in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire and 30th, nationally, in the Times Top 100 Prep Schools. However, the school is about much more than academic outcomes and there is a shared commitment to ensuring the children enjoy a curriculum which provides creative and extensive opportunities to develop their individual talents, and a genuine enjoyment of learning and school life.

The school has excellent facilities and is located in over 6 acres of private grounds surrounded by mature trees. In recent years there has been significant investment including a new specialist early years centre, 25m swimming pool, state of the art sports hall with integrated dance studio, Apple Mac Music and Technology Suite and extensive outdoor learning areas. The school’s greatest strength however is a loyal and talented team of staff who share a commitment to ensuring the children receive a holistic education with every minute of curriculum time put to good use. The new Headteacher must share this commitment to excellence and provide the leadership that can harness this passion and drive further improvement.

The Directors are ambitious for the school and are looking to appoint a candidate who shares that ambition and who will build and continue upon the path of excellence ensuring that the number of pupils increases, the outstanding academic standards are maintained, and the pupils thrive in all areas of their education. They must also bring their own ideas and provide the strategic and collegiate leadership that will lead the school to an even more successful and exciting future.

If you are a dynamic and experienced senior leader, this role offers you an outstanding opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment. Candidates are not required to have previous Headteacher experience but must have a successful track record of sustained improvement and the motivation and determination to maximise the opportunities available. You will be energetic and driven, having a holistic understanding of education with a clear vision and ability to communicate, motivate and inspire all members of the school community. You will have the strategic ability to lead change together with the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. While the school is a Catholic foundation school, the appointed candidate is not required to be a practising Catholic. Most importantly you must share the school’s holistic educational philosophy and ethos that every child is special, an individual and valued as such.
