Job overview

Shrewsbury Academy is a vibrant, ambitious and inclusive mixed 11-16 comprehensive school with 834 students on roll serving north Shrewsbury. The academy opened in September 2016 following the merger of two secondary schools offering education for students over two sites, at Corndon Crescent and Worcester Road. The school is part of the Shrewsbury Academies Trust.

The SAT Trust Board are now looking to appoint a new Headteacher with the skill set to build on the school’s many strengths and to take it forward to even greater success.

This is an exciting time for secondary education in Shrewsbury and we are proud to launch our vision for the future – one in which every student is able to flourish in a culture of learning, community and respect. As a Multi-Academy Trust based on internationally-recognised co-operative values, all our schools share the same driven commitment to maximising the potential of every single learner in our community.

The Shrewsbury Academy wholeheartedly subscribes to a new type of ethos. Our motto is ‘Achieving excellence together’. It means so much more to us than a traditional school motto. We are driven by the belief that all children have the right to a great education, full of opportunity and new experiences that challenge and support them. To access those opportunities, it is vital that our students are confident, resilient and aspirational. We therefore believe in our CARE values of cooperation, aspiration, resilience and excellence.

This is an exciting time for the Academy. Both Local Governing Committee and SAT Trust Board, while not complacent and recognising the many challenges that lie ahead, are looking to appoint a new Headteacher who shares their optimism and can harness the many strengths of the school, leading it to a confident and successful future.

If you are an ambitious and experienced senior leader, at either Deputy or Vice Principal level, in a secondary setting this role offers you an outstanding opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment.

Applicants must be:

  • highly motivated and driven and have an in depth knowledge of excellence in secondary education;
  • visionary and are able to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached;
  • able to display a ‘can-do’ attitude that can inspire and engage students, staff and the wider community;
  • compassionate and be familiar with holding staff to account and also being accountable for outcomes;
  • strong in their belief that children and young people, their learning and developing their potential is at the heart of all decisions;
