Job overview

Headteacher

Full Time, Permanent

£67,652 to £88,571 per annum

(Possibility of negotiation for exceptional candidates)

Winterbourne Academy is looking for a strong, confident, assertive and passionate leader to drive forward a significant agenda for change and development, as the school begins the next phase of its journey into a new and exciting future.

We are seeking an inspirational Headteacher, capable of delivering educational and leadership excellence.  The successful individual will lead by example and will have the skills, experience and desire to take Winterbourne on a trajectory of continuous improvement.

The preparation work has been done for a new Headteacher to come into post and take Winterbourne back to its previous reputational standing and re-establish pride and confidence in the community.  The academy has over 1700 students and benefits from a high proportion of high ability, articulate students who want to do well; it has all the advantages of being in purpose-built facilities as the vast majority of the academy was re-built in 2014; it has a balanced in-year budget and projected stability for next year which is not insignificant in the 2nd lowest funded local authority in England; it has a cohort of staff who are engaged with the improvement journey and desperate to see long-term continuity and stability after much change in recent years; it has all the support needed from the Olympus Academy Trust central services and school improvement teams (both based at Winterbourne now) with the added support of the Teaching School Alliance to draw on and engagement with the other OAT Headteachers’ network for support; as an academy with a new URN, it has a 3-year period before Ofsted are expected to return which gives time to embed and consolidate practice for a new Headteacher; there are significant professional development opportunities for staff through membership of OAT.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to grasp the opportunities afforded by the unique position the school is in and work with the wider Olympus Academy Trust to embed teaching and learning practices that shape the future for the school, staff and the students.

The ideal candidate will have the ambition and genuine passion to raise the profile of our school successfully, show that they are able to maintain good relationships throughout the school community and participate fully in the life of the school. You will be a true champion of best practice, striving for the very best educational provision and will be supported by a strong, committed Leadership Team, the Trust’s Central Team and an effective Local Governing Committee.

We would welcome applications from experienced Headteachers but also from aspiring new Headteachers.  The Trust will flex support for a new Headteacher to match the needs and prior experience so please apply if you think you are ready for an exciting challenge in the context of a local multi-academy trust with a positive reputation in its local communities.

To apply for this role, interested parties are invited to request the full application pack, including Job Description and Person Specification, by contacting Jodi Hallett, Head of HR at the Olympus Academy Trust at Jodi.hallett@olympustrust.co.uk.  Visits to the school for prospective candidates are both recommended and warmly welcomed.  Even if you have not been considering a move, why not come and visit us and find out about this great opportunity?  To make arrangements for a visit please contact Jodi Hallett, Head of HR, on 01454 252009. We look forward to hearing from you.

Closing date: Thursday 29th March 2018 at midday

Date of Interviews: 17th, 19th and 20th April 2018

We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  We require the successful applicant to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring check.  This post is subject to the Childcare (Disqualification) Regulations 2009 and, as such, shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a Disqualification Declaration.  Any information supplied will be discussed at interview.
