HEADTEACHER

Permanent Full-Time Contract - 1st September 2023

(Leadership Point 26-32 (Group 6): £81,927 - £94,898)

Birkdale High School is a popular and successful all-boys’ 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results.  The school is a member of the Southport Learning Trust. Student numbers have risen over the last few years and the school is oversubscribed.

Birkdale High School is widely recognised for its specialism in the education of boys and firmly believes that this gives the opportunity to create a unique environment that enables students to develop to their full potential both academically and personally, free from many of the gender-based prejudices that so often put pressure on young men.

The Governors are looking to appoint an inspirational leader to take Birkdale High School further on its journey towards excellence from 1st September 2023, following the retirement of our current Headteacher, Mr Gil Bourgade.

The motto of Birkdale High School is Aspire - Thrive – Succeed and this is at the heart of everything we do throughout the school community. This role provides a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to build on the current achievements of the school and to further develop their own career with the full support of capable and committed Governors and Trustees.

Appointments are subject to the successful candidate obtaining a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure (via the Disclosure Barring Service).

Further details and an application form can be downloaded from www.birkdalehigh.co.uk or obtained from Ms Karen Anslow at the school.  Completed application forms should be emailed to recruitment@birkdalehigh.co.uk by 12 noon on Monday 20 February 2023.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 March 2023.

Birkdale High School safeguards children and actively promotes their welfare. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to the acquisition of an enhanced DBS certificate with barred list information through the Disclosure and Barring Service and further checks as required. All teaching positions will also be subject to a prohibition order check

Staff work with them to ensure maximum fulfilment of their abilities, whether their skills lie in the academic curriculum or in vocational areas. The secondary school strives to be an open and welcoming environment. Talented and dedicated staff work tirelessly to engage and challenge each and every child.

Activities range from jazz band to badminton, cooking club, hardware club, Christian club and reading club. The garden and wildlife club creates an environment where students can develop their social skills, practical skills and science skills.

Ofsted report

“Most recent academy progress data indicate that there will be further significant improvement at GCSE five A* to C including English and mathematics this year. Boys are making at least good progress and this was confirmed during the inspection through the observations of lessons and scrutiny of current work. Some boys, particularly the more able, are making outstanding progress.”
