Job overview

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to become the first Headteacher of a new Special School for students with Communication and Interaction needs. We are looking for an outstanding leader, with passion and an exciting vision for inclusive education, to lead our new school. This will include an early start to the role in April 2021 (projected) with the successful individual having the key role in setting up the school before its projected opening in September 2021.  Starting with just 40 students, our new Headteacher will lead the development of this school to a capacity of 120 within 3 – 4 years.

As the first ‘new’ school to join our recently formed Trust, EAST, you can be assured of our support alongside a commitment to school individuality and identity, when leading this new Special School. As part of the EAST Executive Headteacher’s Team, you will support the direction and vision for the Trust from the outset, working collaboratively with other leaders in mutual support of each other. The East Anglian Schools Trust (EAST) was established on 1 September 2019. At its inception, three secondary academies decided to formally ‘partner’ together: Bungay, Farlingaye and Kesgrave High Schools.  The addition of a school that will meet the needs of learners that have diverse communication and interaction needs is of particular importance to EAST.  Not only is this specialised school the first addition to the EAST family, beyond the three high schools that collaboratively worked together to establish EAST, but it is also the living fulfilment of our ethos to provide all children in our local area with the opportunity to easily access excellent educational opportunities.  EAST endeavours to develop a passion for learning, encouraging enquiring minds and resilient, confident learners from age 3 to 19.

Our new Special School is yet to be named. Serving Suffolk’s northern area, it will be located in Bungay, at an existing school site (previously the Middle School and then Sixth Form Centre) which will undergo significant refurbishment. Bungay is situated in a pleasant rural area, 20 miles from Norwich and 15 miles from the delightful heritage coast.

An application pack and further details are available from Mrs J Capps-Jenner, Headteacher’s PA:  01986 891642 or email jcappsjenner@bungayhigh.co.uk or alternatively on our website www.eastanglianschoolstrust.co.uk, where the application pack can be downloaded.

Closing date for applications is Monday 7 December 2020 at midday. Candidates are welcome to call and speak to the Headteacher and/or arrange to visit the school site. Please use contact details above to make arrangements.
