St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic High School is an 11 - 16 school comprising of some 600 students and 70 staff. It lies in the heart of the community it serves and welcomes students of all faiths, teaching them gospel values and nurturing them to become confident young adults.

The February 2018 OFSTED inspection accurately graded the school '4' in all areas. However, the recent HMI monitoring visit stated:

'Leaders have taken significant strides towards overcoming some of the very significant challenges identified in the last inspection' and

'Pupils' behaviour has improved significantly in lessons'.

The school has a newly constituted Governing Body, who together with a restructured middle and senior leadership team, have introduced a broad and balanced curriculum for all groups of students, and implemented improved behaviour systems throughout the school, all of which were acknowledged by HMI as being crucial to the school's recent improvement.

Governors are now seeking a Headteacher who:

  • Recognises and understands the challenges of serving an area of diverse need
  • Drives the improvement agenda further with pace, vigour and challenge
  • Challenges students and staff to achieve beyond their expectations

  • Understands the importance of communicating the 'change agenda' to ALL members of the school community
  • Has humour, compassion, determination and drive

St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic High School is a mixed, comprehensive, Roman Catholic secondary school without sixth form situated in Blackbrook, St Helens, Merseyside. It is a voluntary-aided state school under the Diocese of Liverpool. 

St Augustine of Canterbury opened in October 1991. A smaller than average secondary school, it provides 750 places for students between the ages of 11 and 16 when fully subscribed.
