Job overview

An exceptional opportunity to lead a much-loved, outstanding Catholic primary school into the future.

St. Mark's is a one form entry Catholic primary school serving the parish of St. Mark in Ipswich and the Catholic community of Felixstowe.

We are a community in which Christian values are firmly rooted in the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of each child. Our rich learning environment and broad, creative curriculum, enable our children to be balanced and highly accomplished young people who understand that they are uniquely created by God and are loved and valued for who they are.

As a practising Roman Catholic in good standing with the church, your drive and vision will help us to maintain focus on raising standards so that our pupils can continue to be academically ambitious, confident and successful achievers.

We seek to build on the very firm foundations that our present Headteacher has developed in order to continue to provide an excellent academic and pastoral education for every child in our care, and a supportive and nurturing environment for our wonderful staff.

Our school has been assessed by Ofsted as 'Outstanding', and by the Diocese of East Anglia as Grade 1, with an extremely strong Catholic identity which permeates the school's daily life. We are determined to both maintain those standards and improve upon them, and you will find a welcoming and flexible environment within which to develop and innovate  new strategies.

The school is currently moving towards conversion to Academy status with a view to joining Our Lady of Walsingham Multi Academy Trust by July 2020. You will therefore have the opportunity to lead us in the transition to this new chapter in St Mark's story.

We welcome applications from experienced Headteachers as well as aspiring deputies who will be able to demonstrate excellent leadership, management and communication skills.

Governors seek someone who:

  • is a confident and proven leader who lives the gospel values
  • has a clear and consistent focus on teaching and learning so that all our children achieve their full potential
  • demonstrates a track record of supporting and developing outstanding teaching.

As a confident, innovative and inspirational leader, you will show that you are able to maintain excellent relationships throughout the school and parish communities and provide outstanding leadership for this happy and highly successful school.

Visits to the school are both recommended and warmly welcomed. Even if you have not been considering a move why not come and visit us and find out about this great opportunity to lead our community? Please contact Karen Langley on (01473) 601748 to book a tour.
