Job overview

Headteacher

Due to the retirement of the current headteacher, The Ashcombe School and the South East Surrey Schools Education Trust (SESSET) are seeking to appoint an inspirational Headteacher from September 2019. The role would suit an existing Headteacher or a Deputy Headteacher looking for promotion.

The Ashcombe School is a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school for pupils of all abilities.  There are approximately 1400 pupils on roll (with 250 in the Sixth Form).  The school is highly sought-after, with around 240 pupils in each year.   We are a high achieving, genuinely comprehensive school with a strong 6th Form, praised in the recent Ofsted report for the exceptional opportunities and high levels of attainment across the ability range.

The school's academic success is widely recognised.  We continue to have a broad & balanced GCSE based curriculum for all pupils (80% entered for EBacc). A fifth of pupils gain 4+ top GCSE grades (9, 8, A*), 75% gain 9-4 in English, Maths and other core subjects, and there is strong subject value-added.  The Sixth Form has 250 students and offers 25 subjects at A-level, with an average points score per student of around 300 UCAS pts per student with low entry threshold and strong value-added at subject level.

The school’s approach has been one of “extra opportunities” and sharing.  We gained Language College Status in September 1998.   Our extensive extra-curricular opportunities range from sporting events to local and international trips (incl Build Africa in Uganda) to European exchanges to musical groups and our highly acclaimed dramatic and musical productions.

We became a Leadership Partner School in 2009 and  continue to maintain a strong outward-facing approach and offer help to many schools.  This spirit of cooperation and partnership working is fundamental to South East Surrey Schools Education Trust (SESSET).  SESSET was formed by the Governing Bodies of The Ashcombe School, Dorking, Therfield School, Leatherhead and The Warwick School, Redhill, and became operational on 1 January 2017. The names of the schools, their ethos, their uniforms, school days, headteachers and staff remain as they were, as have relationships with all those other schools, colleges and other organisations with whom we have collaborated so positively in the past. The key changes for the schools are largely of a legal and governance nature.

We  invite you to visit our school on one of two days, either Tuesday 12th or Wednesday 13th February, 9.30am-11am. Please contact Vikki Frier, Business Administration Officer, on htapplications@ashcombe.surrey.sch.uk or 01306 886312 for further information or to arrange a visit.

See website www.ashcombe.surrey.sch.uk > "About the School" > "For prospective staff" for more details and an application form or use the downloadable TES form

Closing date is 2pm on Monday 4th March 2019
