Job overview

St Mary and St Michael Catholic Primary School is a much loved, successful school in the heart of Tower Hamlets. We currently have 425 children on roll coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, reflecting the borough’s multi-ethnic communities. Our communities are set in one of the poorest parts of London and so it is important that we provide a platform for our young children to explore the world and to aspire to their full potential. Our school is a happy vibrant place with an ethos of respect and tolerance. Our school has very strong links within the Parish with St Mary & St Michael’s Church right next to the school.

St Mary and St Michael is a warm, welcoming and secure place for children to begin their school life. Our child-centred approach is underpinned by our core values of Compassion, Collaboration, Perseverance, Respect and Self Worth. We seek to inspire in every pupil a love of learning through a wide and balanced curriculum, specialised teaching, music, school trips and underpinning these is our understanding of religious life and the gospel values so that all children feel a valued member of God’s family. The school has a strong Catholic ethos and is at the heart of everything we do and believe in.

One of our strengths is our teacher and support staff, which has been stable and supportive, putting the children first in every way. Our last Ofsted rating was good with elements of outstanding which is down to the dedication of all our staff.

We are looking to appoint an inspirational leader to build on the strengths of the school and to make sure that we continue to achieve the best outcomes for every child going forward, drawing on the expertise of all its community members. We are seeking an outward looking leader who will continue to promote innovation and a progressive approach to learning and teaching.

Our new Head Teacher will:

·        be passionate about children’s learning and keen to see all children inspired to succeed

·        bring new ideas, be accessible and lead by example

·        be outstanding at motivating and managing staff and creating links with the local community

·        enjoy shaping and delivering a broad, balanced, innovative and creative curriculum

In short, our school is looking for a dynamic, personable leader to continue this faith led school's exciting journey as it evolves and develops.

We look forward to meeting you!
