Job overview

Post ref: 222847

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our warm, welcoming, caring school in the village of Alverthorpe, near Wakefield. The present Headteacher has served the school well for the last 15 years and is now taking retirement. We are looking for continuous stability through the appointment of an experienced, inspirational leader, to ensure that the success of the school is maintained and the pupils continue to thrive.

The Governing Body, staff and children are seeking to appoint a Headteacher who is committed to achieving excellent outcomes for all of our learners, while maintaining and enhancing our distinctive character as a Church of England school.

We are looking for a Headteacher who:

  • Is an inspirational role model with strong leadership and management experience at a primary level, and with excellent organisational and inter-personal skills,  demonstrating a passion for teaching and learning, and believing that children and staff will be the best that they can be.
  • Can articulate explicit Christian values and moral purpose for the leadership of our Church of England school, focused on providing a distinctive first class education for our pupils.
  • Is able to evidence an understanding of current research/developments into effective teaching and learning, and how it could support St Paul’s School pupils and staff in their learning journey.
  • Is reflective, with good communication and listening skills and able to recognise current strengths, maintaining stability whilst managing change when needed.
  • Will develop effective relationships with other services and organisations to improve academic, spiritual, cultural and social outcomes for all pupils.
  • Has the ability to sustain and enhance our strong relationships with parents, staff, governors, the community, the diocese and Alverthorpe St Paul’s Church.
  • Is positive, motivational and consistent.
  • Can exercise strategic, curriculum-led financial planning to ensure that budgets and resources are utilised, in the best interests of achievement and the school’s sustainability.
  • Will ensure that the school’s systems, organisation and processes are well considered, efficient and fit for purpose, upholding the principles of transparency, integrity and probity.
  • Will provide a safe, calm and well-ordered environment for all students and staff, with a strong focus on safeguarding and the development of exemplary behaviour in school and in the wider society.

We can offer you:

  • Delightful children, who are hardworking, enthusiastic and well-behaved, with parents who are keen to engage with their children’s learning.
  • Supportive, well-informed Governors, who are dedicated to a Christian vision of educational excellence, with a commitment to your continuing professional development.
  • A team of caring and committed staff, who seek consistent, outstanding, effective leadership.
  • Support and guidance from the diocese.

We warmly encourage you to visit the school before you apply. We would be delighted to show you our school and to answer any questions that you may have. Please contact Lisa Ashton, School Business Manager, at the school office on 01924 290125, who will be able to arrange a suitable date and time for you to visit our school.
