Willowfield school is a hugely successful, inclusive, expanding and oversubscribed 11-16 mixed comprehensive in the heart of its community. We are in Walthamstow, a vibrant and truly diverse part of London with a rich culture in the Borough of Waltham Forest.

The Governing Body are seeking to appoint an exceptional, highly aspirational and dynamic leader who will encompass the school’s values and build on the successes which have been driven by the current headteacher who has served the school for seven years.

Willowfield has emerged from the pandemic with a recent positive Ofsted inspection which confirmed that we are a good school. The report highlighted the quality of education and how pupils feel safe in school and enjoy their education.

The school moved to a new site, next to Blackhorse Road Underground Station, in 2015 and benefits from a new building and excellent facilities. The school is in a strong financial position.

Our aim is to do everything possible to ensure that all our students are fully to achieve success in their future careers and endeavours. The Governing Body play an active role in supporting the headteacher and senior leadership team to achieve this.

Willowfield is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school for pupils aged 11-16, located in Walthamstow, East London. The school provides 990 places.

Willowfield moved to a brand new building in September 2015, with state-of-the-art facilities including dance and drama studios, plus a wildlife garden. The move created 300 additional places for applicants in Walthamstow.

Willowfield hopes to encourage pupils to fulfil their potential, ensuring that they are nurtured in a safe and happy environment. The secondary school prides itself on educating an international community, where more than 50 languages are spoken.

Pupils are challenged to be high achievers, with the school’s motto being “Give all thou canst”. Teachers aim for students to become great citizens and leave school with the confidence to compete with people from all walks of life, both personally and professionally.

Willowfield emphasises the importance of extra-curricular activities and citizenship engagement. It also has a thriving Student Leadership Council, who were involved in appointing the current headteacher.

Ofsted report

Teachers use questioning with skill, building on successful relationships with pupils who are keen to learn. Inspectors observed a number of examples of teachers asking questions that probed and challenged pupils’ understanding, helping the class to make good progress. Pupils’ personal development is enhanced by the range of extra-curricular activities on offer, including opportunities to participate in teams, clubs and competitions.”
