Job overview

Dear Prospective Headteacher,

Due to retirement we are looking for a new Headteacher for Swaffield Primary School starting in September 2018 and we are delighted that you are interested in this role.

Swaffield is a 3/2 form entry school located in Wandsworth, South West London. We are a vibrant and happy inner city school and our pupils reflect our community which is socially, economically and culturally diverse.

Swaffield is a ‘Good’ school with aspirations to become ‘Outstanding’. Governors firmly believe that we can only achieve this if we continue to have a team of staff who are motivated and enthusiastic to help every child achieve their potential regardless of their ability and therefore staff development is high on our list of strategic priorities.

The school has a strong reputation for a broad curriculum and when you visit the school you will notice our focus on the sports, arts and music creates an environment which is bright and inspiring. Our surroundings clearly demonstrate our pride in the creativity of our children and staff and it is a pleasure to see the wide variety of their work.

As Headteacher at Swaffield Primary School there are many exciting challenges. The children make good progress but we are looking to raise their attainment further and want to recruit a Headteacher who has the experience and resilience to achieve this in a creative and motivating way. We have sufficient space in the school to enable a wide variety of activities and potentially move all year groups to be three forms. It is very important that your communication style is engaging and we strongly favour a largely open door policy to enable your conversations with a wide variety of adults and children to be approachable as well as professional.

Being a stand alone, maintained school with a clear identity an important aspect of the role will be to continue the collaborative work with other schools to share ideas and best practice. This work has been ongoing for over three years and really needs to be firmly established as an effective way of working.

We are also fortunate to have parents and carers who actively support Swaffield in a variety of ways (PTA, leading clubs, volunteer readers and governors). To ensure an open style of communication with all stakeholders we employ a Marketing Officer who manages all communications and is currently busy relaunching our website.

If you feel you have the necessary qualities, experience and ambition to develop the school towards outstanding and support the staff in their work to achieve the best for every child then we would love to hear from you.

To arrange a visit please call Charlotte Stone or Margaret Cox on 020 8874 2825 or send an email swaffield@swaffield.wandsworth.sch.uk

Yours sincerely,

Liz Love
