An exceptional opportunity to lead our school into the future. We are proud of our achievements.

Exeter House School is a highly successful school for pupils with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties. The school serves a wide catchment area covering the whole of Wiltshire and surrounding counties, is well embedded in the local community and has strong links with other schools within the area.

We are committed to providing a stimulating, happy and supportive environment in which every child is valued as an individual and encouraged to lead as full and independent a life as possible.

The Governors invite applications from candidates with drive and imagination, as well as excellent leadership and management skills, to build on the many outstanding strengths of the School.

Exeter House is part of The Somerset Road Education Trust (SRET) that was formed on 1 January 2015. It comprises Exeter House Special School, St Mark’s CE Junior School, and Wyndham Park Infants’ School. All three schools occupy the same site.

The three schools have shared a campus on Somerset Road, Salisbury, for nearly 20 years. The campus, to the north east of Salisbury, is on the edge of picturesque downland at Bishopdown and enjoys spectacular views across to the Laverstock Down.

Our three schools have worked closely together for many years and in November 2013 the three Governing bodies decided that Multi-Academy status might be a good way forward for the three schools. We are proud to be the first Multi-Academy Trust in the City of Salisbury.

Due to the promotion of our previous Headteacher we are now looking for an inspirational leader with a clear vision of how to build upon this success.

We are looking for an enthusiastic leader who:

  • Is committed to excellence in teaching and learning
  • Can lead, motivate and inspire staff
  • Is able to demonstrate drive, ambition and vision linked to strong leadership and management skills
  • Can build excellent relationships with young people, staff, parents, governors and the wider community
  • Will help young people enjoy their learning while realising their full potential
  • Will value our pupils and take pride in their achievements
  • Will have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour
  • Can further develop a culture where everyone’s contribution is valued and individuals are encouraged to succeed.

We can offer:

  • The opportunity to play a key role in the wider strategic direction of the MAT
  • A friendly, happy and dynamic learning environment where a high value is placed on the care and wellbeing of every pupil
  • A dedicated and committed teaching and support staff
  • A school where children reach their potential through a broad and stimulating curriculum
  • A wealth of extra-curricular sporting, creative and off-site activities
  • A committed, supportive and active Governing Body

Are you the visionary leader who can take us from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’? If so, we would like to meet you.

Visits to the school for prospective candidates are both recommended and warmly welcomed. Even if you have not been considering a move why not come and visit us and find out about this great opportunity.

Our curriculum is built around the needs of each child. As would be expected, we work hard to instil the skills necessary for a fulfilled adulthood. This means our children should become comfortable in their community in the world of work, leisure and family.
We therefore set targets for children which will challenge them in their learning. These may be based on life skills, communication, socialisation, behaviour, academic performance or simply confidence building. A sensory approach is necessary for some children to enable a meaningful curriculum to be delivered, and a high level of staff support is essential in many cases.

Exeter House is an all age day special school, catering for the needs of children and young people who have severe learning difficulties and in some cases, complex needs.
We also meet the needs of some children who have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
Exeter House has a culture of support between all members of the school community. This is reflected in the achievement of the Investors in People Award.

Child Protection and safeguarding children receive a high priority here. We understand that we are dealing with some very vulnerable children, and that some are completely reliant on staff whilst at school. Our partnership with parents, based on honesty and openness helps to ensure that children are secure at home and at school.
