Job overview

If you relish the idea of leading a successful, ambitious and vibrant village school (NOR 200), in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of England, then the Governors, children and staff of Cherhill C of E (VA) Primary School would like to hear from you.

After 11 very successful years at the school our highly respected current Headteacher has been promoted, and will be leaving at the end of the summer term. We wish to appoint an exceptionally motivated, creative and outstanding new Headteacher with the passion, energy, experience and ambition to lead the school in this next exciting phase of development, which will include progressing from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’. This is a strategically important time for the school as we are also in early negotiations for possible entry into the proposed Calne Multi-Academy Trust (CMAT). This has the potential to offer exciting opportunities for the school, whilst maintaining our own identity.(eg an even closer relationship with Cherhill Pre-School, enhanced CPD and career development, even more creative curriculum development )

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about teaching and learning and can inspire that passion in both staff and children
  • Is determined that all children at Cherhill School will achieve their potential, have the most positive and enjoyable experience possible and will be equipped with the skills and a love of learning which they can build on throughout their lives
  • With the ability and vision to continue to develop Cherhill as a distinctive and effective Church of England school.
  • Can ensure the school ethos and vision continue to be clearly articulated, understood and acted upon effectively by all members of the school community
  • Can build on and develop our exciting and challenging curriculum that inspires children to develop their own ‘learning to learn skills’

The successful applicant will be working with a professional and welcoming staff, an effective and positive Governing Body and supportive parents. The school also benefits from strong bonds with St James Church, in Cherhill. We are an outward looking school and have a strong presence in the local community, which we wish to maintain and develop. Being Headteacher at Cherhill School offers both an exciting professional opportunity and the chance for anyone new to the area to live in a beautiful rural setting, whilst at the same time being close to the historic and vibrant cities of Bath and Bristol.

As a Church school, prospective candidates should either be a member of the CofE, or sympathetic to the values held by the Church of England and understand how to develop the distinctiveness and effectiveness of a Church of England school.

The school welcomes and encourages prospective applicants to visit the school and information about arrangements for such visits is contained in the Application Pack.

Closing date for applications: midnight Monday 19th June
Shortlisting: Friday 23rd June
Interview date: Wednesday 5th July

Safe Guarding Statement
