Job overview

Pine Green Academy and Evergreen Academy are a co-located SEMH school and PRU in Wolverhampton. The schools joined Shaw Education Trust in March 2020. The trust has exciting plans and there is now a fantastic opportunity for a Headteacher to provide the leadership that will unlock the potential at each school and create exceptional opportunities for all of the children and young people who attend them.

Pine Green Academy is an inclusive, happy and successful specialist provision for children and young people aged 5-16 with social, emotional and mental health needs. There are 97 children on roll, with capacity for 122 and demand for places growing. Pupils feel valued and learn to take responsibility for themselves and others. The school is committed to meeting individual needs and all pupils are expected to leave school with accredited qualifications.

Evergreen Academy is a positive, nurturing short stay PRU for primary age children, who are disengaged with learning and struggling to function successfully in their class setting and are at risk of exclusion, or who have been permanently excluded. Between 15 and 30 pupils attend at different times.

The Shaw Education Trust is a MAT consisting of 25 mainstream and special schools along with 3 Teaching Schools, a SCITT and an Institute of Education. It is sponsored by a third sector charity, The Shaw Trust. It is an innovative, aspirational and motivated Trust, determined to affect positive outcomes for all. You will be encouraged to be creative and ground-breaking and will be part of a network offering excellent support with exceptional, high quality professional development at the heart of the Trust’s approach.

Pine Green and Evergreen are now at an exciting stage in their development. The Headteacher will lead further developments to ensure there is a coherent offering across both schools while also working strategically to support the needs of a growing and increasingly complex cohort in the area.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate recent, successful and sustained impact as a senior leader in a SEND setting. Your inspirational energies will harness a collective motivation which will trigger accelerated performance and awesome outcomes for the young people. You should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. Your positive attitude will inspire and engage the young people, parents/carers, staff and the local community and see both school’s recognised as a beacon of excellence. You must be confident, approachable and have the skills to build high performing teams and a positive culture. Above all, you will share the school and the Trust’s relentless focus on providing the very best for all its young people with a vision for continuing success and future development.
