Job overview

Good foundations, great future!

The Bulmershe School is a diverse and inclusive school that can proudly claim that we have become a school of choice. We believe strongly that promoting ‘student voice’ is as important as our continuous push for academic excellence.

Building on the strong progress firmly established over the last few years, we are now looking for a leader to help us improve on these solid foundations and move our school towards achieving outstanding status.

A serving headteacher or an experienced deputy head, you will be adept at managing a range of competing priorities. Our immediate challenges include: maintaining the focus on whole school improvement; planning our transition to academy status and the changes that may result from this; and strengthening ties with our local primary schools.

Most of all, your exceptional leadership skills should inspire and motivate others. Your ability to think outside the box should sit comfortably with our culture and values on diversity. And your inclusive vision should exemplify our motto, ‘where everyone matters’.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to respect this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced CRB check.

School visits: 23rd and 28th June
Closing date: 3rd July 9am
Interviews: 10th & 11th July

The Bulmershe School is a heavily oversubscribed school which sits at the heart of the Woodley community. We are a mixed, Corvus Learning Trust Academy school of 1,500 students aged between 11 and 18, who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

We take enormous pride in our caring reputation and anyone who joins our team should be committed to achieving high levels of responsibility, mutual respect and resilience within the safe and nurturing environment of our school community.

The community school was established in 1964 and at present, has around 1,500 students on the roll with 250 pupils enrolled in our growing sixth form.

Values and Vision

The Bulmershe School is a vibrant, diverse and inclusive community where we want students to be happy, self-confident and ambitious thinkers. When students move onto the next exciting stage we want them to be well prepared for life in the 21st Century.

We strive for our vision through students being challenged by remarkable teachers that inspire learners with the love of their subjects and whom encourage curiosity. Our challenging curriculum is strengthened by a broad range of enrichment opportunities which allows each learner to develop their own personal interests and academic potential.

Ofsted report

“Students make good progress overall. The standards they attain in English, mathematics, science and a range of other subjects are at, or above, the national average. The school is improving quickly. Teaching is good and sometimes outstanding. Lessons are well planned and paced so that students are engaged in their learning. Students’ behaviour, both in lessons and around the school, is very good. Students’ very positive attitudes to learning contribute to their good progress in lessons. The school is a harmonious community with good relationships between students and staff. Students feel very safe and the school promotes their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well.”
