Ysgol Clywedog is an English-medium 11 to 16 mixed comprehensive school, maintained by Wrexham Local Authority. The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to lead the school on its improvement journey. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an absolute commitment to delivering high quality teaching, learning and support to all pupils, in an inclusive environment, that will enable them to achieve individual success.

The school is located in Wrexham, North East Wales, it is proud of, and celebrates its Welsh heritage and cultural identity. Wrexham nestles in the Dee Valley between the Welsh mountains and the Cheshire plains. A location that can offer you the very beautiful North Wales countryside and within minutes the vibrant city of Chester, Manchester and Liverpool – with their international blends of culture, nightlife, and shopping. 

At Clywedog we offer 830 students an inclusive environment, that enables them to achieve individual success. We are looking to appoint a Headteacher with considerable experience in a secondary education setting who knows what outstanding provision, academic progress and inclusion looks like. 

We are looking for a dynamic leader who has a genuine desire to make a difference to education of the students of Wrexham and work openly, inclusively and collaboratively with the Local Authority, Regional School Improvement Service (GwE) and stakeholders in order to create an educational environment that stimulates, supports and nurtures students. The successful candidate must have a deep understanding of and commitment to our vision and values.

The successful applicant will be an inspirational individual with the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and be able to demonstrate drive, enthusiasm and proven leadership skills.

About Ysgol Clywedog

Ysgol Clywedog is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary in Wrexham, north-west Wales. There are approximately 850 students on the school roll. The school is located next to Clywedog Leisure and Activity Centre, and both are named for a nearby river. The town of Wrexham has a population of 61,00, and is the fourth largest urban centre in Wales. The school was opened in 2003, and its motto is ‘being the best that we can be’.
