The Maelor School is an English-medium 11 to 18 mixed comprehensive school, maintained by the governing body as a foundation school with support from Wrexham Local Authority. To support the school, continue its next chapter, we are looking for an outstanding, highly experienced and supportive senior school leader, with a track record of success to work in partnership with the governing body and other key stakeholders to deliver excellence for our learners whilst fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment.

Our new Headteacher will have:

- Proven leadership ability and a clear vision of high quality and inclusive education

- Experience of delivering sustainable improvements

- Experience of leadership in curriculum development and the ability to shape the

future curriculum development in line with the new curriculum for Wales.

- Ability to empower and inspire both staff and learners to reach their full potential.

- Excellent organisational and communication skills

The school is located in a rural part of Wrexham County, North East Wales, it is proud of, and celebrates its Welsh heritage and cultural identity. Wrexham nestles in the Dee Valley between the Welsh mountains and the Cheshire plains. A location that can offer you the very beautiful North Wales countryside and within minutes the vibrant cities of Chester, Manchester and Liverpool – with their international blends of culture, nightlife, and shopping.

At The Maelor School we offer 810 students an inclusive environment, the school has been oversubscribed for the last ten years and has a vibrant and expanding sixth form. Outcomes at both GCSE and A level are amongst the best in Wales, attendance is good, and the school has a reputation for the excellent behaviour of its learners.

The successful applicant will be an inspirational individual with the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and be able to demonstrate drive, enthusiasm and proven leadership skills.

About The Maelor School

The Maelor School is a secondary foundation school situated in the county borough of Wrexham. It educates girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 18. The school was established in 1957 in the village of Penley. There are 766 pupils enrolled at the school, 96 of them are in sixth form. In 2014, the Daily Post listed the Maelor School as the sixth best school in Wales out of 3, 079. In 2015, it was rewarded for having the highest grades in Wales for pupils who get free school meals.

Values and Vision

The Maelor School teaches students Welsh as a second language. As a part of the Welsh Baccalaureate, sixth formers are encouraged to take part in community services. Extra-curricular activities are valued at the school. Children can participate in concerts, musical lessons, team games and trips abroad. Students can also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

I n nearly all lessons, positive relationships between teachers and pupils help to create a calm and purposeful learning environment.
