This is a uniquely important time to join Ofsted. We know that the sector continues to face extraordinary pressures. These pressures further emphasise our role as a force for improvement and the importance of understanding the quality of education that learners are experiencing.

Our education inspection framework has curriculum and the quality of education at its heart. If you join us as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI), you will use this framework and your expertise to shine a light on good practice and constructively challenge where provision needs to improve. You will receive excellent training, so that your existing expertise is used to maximum impact.

Your work will take you to general further education colleges, prisons, sixth-form colleges, local authorities and employers or private training providers offering apprenticeships. No two days will ever be the same. You will use your knowledge and experience to turn broad-ranging information into clear judgements and easy-to-understand inspection reports. Your reports will help learners know where to study and support providers in improving the quality of what they deliver.

In addition to inspections, HMI can use the evidence we gather to carry out research projects and support our contracted inspection workforce – this is a role that offers great variety.

We are looking for professionals from across further education colleges and training providers. Leadership experience will be essential; you might be a deputy principal, senior quality manager or faculty leader. Whichever path your career has taken so far, you will also:

  • have a proven track record of improvement
  • be an inspirational and credible communicator, confident in making judgements and passionate about improving outcomes
  • understand good practice, complemented by the ability to analyse evidence, and present it fairly and clearly.

Above all, you will be resilient, acting with confidence, conviction, and integrity in the face of challenge.

Visit https://resourcing.ofsted.gov.uk/ for more information and details of how to apply.

We will be holding a live webinar presented by Senior HMI and HMI from our Further Education and Skills team. The webinar will provide an opportunity for you to learn more and ask us questions about the role. The webinar will take place at 5pm on Monday 22 November 2021. To attend, please register in advance.

If you think you have the right experience and are excited about working with us, we would welcome an application. The closing date for applications is 11.55pm on Monday 29 November 2021.
