Job overview

The school seeks to identify and employ a highly competent Higher Level Teacher Assistant who will provide consistent and positive support to the team of teaching staff, and the students.

The post will support Centre 37 Vocational site primarily, but the scope of the role may include you working at the main school site and satellite sites which will include providing lesson cover throughout parts of the week and directing the work of other Teacher Assistants within the school. This post will also involve assisting the school SENCO with general SEN duties.

The role will at times be interchangeable reflecting the daily needs of the school as a whole. Additional duties reflective of the position may at times be required. These will respond to the developing needs of the school and its students.

The post requires an individual with the skills to sensitively understand the learning, social and emotional needs of each individual, and tailor teaching styles and expectations accordingly. Additionally, the posts require a skilled communicator who can motivate and support and colleagues, and who can develop and maintain cohesive team relationships.

The Bridge School is a Pupil Referral Unit for Secondary aged students. Many students experience varied barriers to learning, including developmental and behavioural challenges. Within the school there is a strong need to support student’s reading and wider literacy skills, as well as developing core skills in numeracy. Both areas are central to student support. Teaching staff and students benefit from proactive Teacher Assistants who are able to organise and present resources that support the on-going needs of the classroom and individuals.

This member of the team will have very well-developed communication with students, understanding how to manage challenging behaviour in a progressive, systematic and solution focussed way. They will be able to demonstrate that they can independently supervise and manage small groups of students, with good organisation, producing effective outcomes. The support and development of our student’s social skills, emotional needs and mental health are a core strand of the school’s remit. Subsequently we require staff who understand the impact of these aspects of child development on an individual’s progress and participation.

Informal discussions and visits to the school are welcome. These can be arranged by contacting the school office on 01928-581301.
