Salary: £14,121 per annum
Benefits & Grade: Gross £17,891 (pro-rata £14, 121).
Contract Details: The post will be term time only plus one week.

The HLTA will supervise whole classes in the Junior School (R-Y6), during the short-term absence of teachers. In addition, this role will provide in-class support alongside class teachers when not required to take classes, as well as some admin and preparation of materials for teaching staff.

More specifically they may be expected to:

  • Work with teaching staff on planning, evaluating and adjusting work programmes and intervention strategies as appropriate
  • Monitor and evaluate students' responses to planned learning activities, observing and recording achievement against pre-determined learning objectives
  • Provide feedback to teachers and students
  • Keep records and update systems as required
  • Mark students' work and record achievement/progress.
  • Promote positive values, attitudes to learning and good pupil behaviour
  • Liaise with parents/carers where necessary
  • Undertake break duties

This is a description of the main duties and responsibilities of the post at the date of production. The duties may change over time as requirements and circumstances change. The post-holder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility from time to time.

Our ideal candidates will:

  • Be a skilled TA with experience of manging whole classes in the HLTA role
  • Have experience of working effectively with pupils across all three Key Stages of the Primary phase
  • Have a clear understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities
  • Be highly organised, have strong numeracy and literacy skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly to different classroom settings
  • Be skilled at supervising pupils and establishing a constructive, safe and ordered atmosphere in the classroom
  • Be committed to Polam Hall's ethos and high expectations

Polam Hall is a 4 to 19, co-educational day and boarding school, and converted to Free School status in September 2015.  The School was independent until that point and the whole staff are engaged in Ofsted readiness training prior to first Ofsted which is expected in the year 2017-18. When last inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, in 2012, the school was graded as good or outstanding in all categories.  The school has recently announced that it is in discussions to join Woodard Academies Trust in Spring 2017.

This is a very exciting time at Polam Hall. The School has grown to its current 700 pupils over the last two years and over the next five will continue to expand until it reaches a roll of around 880. The School is two form entry into Reception and a third form joins in Y7.

The vision of the School moving forward is very much one of keeping things as they are, with a focus on the individual, on providing opportunities, and the holistic development of each child.

Anyone interested in this post should write a covering letter to the HR Manager, Mrs Jane Hiser, explaining why they are interested in the role and what they can bring to it.  The letter of application should be accompanied with a completed application form.

Applications should be sent by email to Mrs S Goynes (goynes.s@polamhall.com) by midday on Thursday 25 January.
Interview Date: Interviews will take place in the week commencing Monday 30 January.
