Aspris Quay View School are recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our Education team now! We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all key stages. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher, assisting a small group of children with their work and supporting with pupil behaviour while establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs.

Aspris Children's Services, Devon & Cornwall is made up of two schools, Quay View School (Bere Alston) and Tor View School (Tavistock) and three children's homes based in Tavistock, Gunnislake and Okehampton. We specialise in care and education of children and young people aged 7-19 with autism, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and SEMH. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the pupil's strengths, weaknesses, and individual learning requirements.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver tailored lessons and activities to meet the pupil's educational goals and objectives.
  • Implement effective strategies, interventions, and support plans to address the pupil's specific learning difficulties or behavioural challenges.
  • Provide 1:1 assistance during activities, ensuring the pupil is engaged and actively participating in lessons.
  • Monitor the pupil's progress closely, maintaining accurate records and regularly reporting to relevant stakeholders.
  •  Collaborate with the wider staff team and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to adapt curriculum materials and teaching methods to suit the pupil's needs.
  •  Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for the pupil, encouraging their social integration and promoting positive relationships with peers.
  •  Liaise with parents, providing regular updates on the pupil's progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
  •  Attend relevant meetings and training sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills in supporting pupils with specific educational needs.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.


Person Specification:

  • Hold a relevant HLTA qualification or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the educational and emotional needs of pupils with diverse learning requirements.
  •  Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
  • Exhibit strong organizational abilities and the capacity to manage individualised education plans effectively.
  • Show flexibility, adaptability, and resilience when faced with challenges or changing circumstances.

At Southern Peninsula Services, we offer bespoke placements for young people (boys and girls) aged 7 to 19 years who have complex needs including SEBD, ASD and other learning disabilities.

In liaison with the commissioning LA’s and parents, we are able to make clear decisions about the educational and care programmes that best meet the individual needs of the young person. Our programmes are also supported by on-site therapy services, where necessary.
