At Leigh Academy Bexley, we have 2 fantastic opportunities for committed and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants to join our well-established, highly collaborative, and successful Inclusion Team.

Our staff work hard to ensure that students receive the highest quality education. To support our growing academy, we are currently recruiting for two distinct HLTA roles within our mainstream setting and our exciting new specialist provision:

SEN Specialist HLTA

  • The Focus: Supporting students with diverse special educational needs (SEND), specifically focusing on academic access, welfare, and tailored learning interventions.

  • Ideal Experience: Experience working with secondary-aged young people with Autism (ASD) within a specialist provision and delivering small-group interventions is highly desirable.

Behaviour Specialist HLTA

  • The Focus: Supporting students who require targeted behavioural interventions, mentoring, and pastoral guidance to help them re-engage with learning and thrive in the academy environment.

  • Ideal Experience: Experience in behaviour management strategies, de-escalation, and supporting the emotional and social welfare of secondary-aged students.

Whether you are specialised in SEN or Behaviour, the role of an HLTA at our academy is wonderfully varied. Working under the line management of the Principal, you will:

  • Deliver targeted interventions for learners to ensure they can access the curriculum from both an academic and a welfare perspective.

  • Work with students on a 1-to-1 basis, in small groups, or provide general assistance and cover for whole classes.

  • Provide the vital continuity of support that our students rely on to succeed.

Our ideal candidates will be patient, empathetic, and highly adaptable. You should be passionate about working with secondary-aged students from all backgrounds and with differing needs.

Note for Applicants: Please specify in your application whether you are applying for the SEN Specialist role, the Behaviour Specialist role, or if you would like to be considered for both.

This is a permanent position offering an actual salary ranging between £27,985 - £29,234 per annum (£32,536 - £33,988 full-time equivalent), based on 36 hours per week, 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday, working term-time + 1 week of inset. Please note that the starting salary within this range is based on experience, and the academy is open to negotiating a salary for the right candidate.
