About the role:

The role of HLTA supports teachers by managing pastoral programs, planning and delivering learning activities, and monitoring student progress. This includes assessing, recording, and reporting on student achievements.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assess and support student needs, promoting inclusion and self-reliance.
  • Establish productive relationships and encourage cooperation and engagement.
  • Provide feedback on student progress and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Support for the Teacher:

  • Organise learning environments and resources, providing accurate feedback and reports on student achievements.
  • Manage student behaviour, promote self-control, and support parent engagement.
  • Assist in planning, evaluating lessons, and administering tests.

Support for the Curriculum:

  • Deliver learning activities and use ICT to support learning.
  • Advise on the use of specialist resources and tailor activities to student needs.

Support for the School:

  • Ensure compliance with child protection, safety policies, and contribute to the school’s ethos.
  • Work with other professionals, attend meetings, and engage in training.

Management:

  • Manage and support other teaching assistants, liaise with staff, and participate in staff meetings.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and appraisal of teaching assistants.

Resources:

  • Manage learning equipment, budgets, and help students access specialist resources.
  • Keep up-to-date with external support agencies.

The role is centered around student support, classroom assistance, curriculum delivery, school compliance, team management, and resource management.
