The role

We are seeking to appoint a self-motivated, enthusiastic and reliable Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support students with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The successful candidate will be predominantly based within our Science department, supporting teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4, while also contributing to the wider work of the SEND team and whole-school operations, including interventions and short-term cover supervision.

You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral colleagues and the Inclusion Team to deliver targeted one-to-one and small group interventions, monitor student progress, and act as a key worker for identified students, including those with EHCPs. The role also involves working with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure effective and joined-up support.

We are looking for someone who can uphold high expectations, promote independence and support students to engage positively with learning, particularly within a practical subject area. The role may also include providing personal care in line with student healthcare plans where required.

This is an excellent opportunity for a committed individual who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people. For the right candidate, the school would be willing to support and fund the HLTA qualification as part of their professional development. Hyde High School offers a supportive and collaborative environment where staff are valued and encouraged to grow.

We are rooted in our community where we celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of everyone. We know that a successful school depends on a strong partnership between school and home and a shared approach is key to the individual success and happiness of every student.

Life at Hyde High School is under-pinned by a clear set of values: be ready, be respectful, be safe.

By living and breathing these values we ensure that each member of the school community can fulfil their potential and flourish in the wider world.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; pre-employment checks will be carried out; references will be sought, and successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other relevant checks with statutory bodies.

It is an offence to apply for this role if you have been barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

This list is not exhaustive, and candidates will also be considered without discrimination based on socioeconomic, marital, parental or caregiving status, or any of the previously listed characteristics or statuses.

We value the diversity of our staff and do not tolerate any form of harassment, discrimination, or victimisation. We achieve this by creating and maintaining a work environment and culture where people from different backgrounds, and with varying lifestyles, interests, opinions, and responsibilities, treat each other with dignity and respect. Our working environment is such that our staff feel safe and are inspired and motivated to be their best.

The Trust and its schools are dedicated to sustaining and promoting diversity with respect to recruitment, promotion, training, and general treatment during employment. We are actively seeking to extend the diversity of our staff.

Hyde High School is a popular and improving co-educational school with 1150 learners from a range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our proudly multicultural school is recognised as having a harmonious ethos where pupils show positive attitudes to learning, kindness to others and where they achieve well. We have high expectations of all members of our school community and strive to promote a true sense of pride and team spirit, where mutual respect and support are unequivocal and where learning is truly valued and at the heart of everything we do. A dedicated and talented team of staff work hard to secure the best possible outcomes for all pupils; staff morale is good and our latest Ofsted report shows a clear upwards trajectory.

The most recent (2023) inspection noted that:

  • Pupils, staff and residents of the local community are proud of this school.
  • The school has prioritised the development of the curriculum... it has high expectations of what pupils can achieve, including pupils with special educational needs.
  • Pupils enjoy the increasing range of opportunities available to them to enhance their learning.

We are proud to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of 21st century life. In the context of our school, this means offering an academically robust curriculum, enhanced by more creative and practically based courses; we believe that the arts, physical education and technical subjects should be promoted as vital facets in the development of well-rounded pupils.
