Job overview

We are looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant – KS3 English.

The successful candidate will be part of our Learning Support team, working with students who experience difficulties in accessing the curriculum.

The objective of this post is to provide support to targeted individual students, small groups and classes during Key Stage 4 and 5 GCSE English lessons. The needs of the students will vary; some will have special educational needs such as Dyslexia or ASD. Our HLTAs would generally work with small groups of students within the main classroom to ensure students’ progress and to boost their confidence. The role will involve planning, preparing and delivering group work or team teaching with the main class teacher. You will also be expected to deliver interventions to targeted students focusing on pre- and post-teaching of English set texts, exam skills and vocabulary.

As with all HLTAs, you will progress students’ learning and, with other professionals, support pupils’ social, emotional and physical wellbeing. It is necessary for the candidate to have qualifications in Maths/Numeracy or English/Literacy equivalent to at least NVQ Level 2. The post requires a good standard of education and an attitude which is positive and supportive towards young people.

With our ethos of ‘Learning, Respect and Belonging’, we have high aspirations for everyone and expect everyone to contribute positively to the school by working hard and participating in school activities. We seek to develop our staff through a professional growth model and treat everyone as an individual; we value personal strengths and qualities. Homewood School is part of Tenterden Schools’ Trust, working in collaboration with local primary schools serving the beautiful Wealden town of Tenterden and the surrounding villages. All teaching staff are provided with an IT device, and there is also a nursery based on the school site, which offers discounts to Homewood Staff.

It’s a competitive market out there, and we want to know what it is that makes you the one we can invest in. Detail your successes in your covering letter and get us excited about you.

We are not accepting applications from employment agencies for this position but would be delighted to receive a direct application from you.

Closing date: 19th February 2023; however, an early application is encouraged as we review applications as we receive them.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all members of the community.

Tenterden Schools Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure. You are advised that this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and therefore, this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
