At Ashmole Academy, Languages are an integral part of our curriculum and are highly valued by our school community. We aim to equip students with the skills and cultural capital that they need to succeed in life, encouraging pupils to appreciate and celebrate difference as well as providing a framework for further language learning. Under the direction and supervision of teaching staff, the successful candidate will also provide learning support and assistance to pupils in the classroom and may also work with small groups of pupils and on a one-to-one basis.

The role of HLTA is an excellent opportunity to inspire and motivate young people throughout their secondary education. The Modern Languages faculty delivers French and Spanish across all key stages and is supported by a rich, wider languages offer, including community languages. Beyond the classroom, we offer a vibrant enrichment programme. This includes annual residential trips to France and Spain for Key Stage 3 students, as well as regular ski trips to the French Alps, helping to bring language learning to life.

The successful candidate may have a French or Spanish related degree; will have a passion to inspire and maintain high quality teaching and learning and have a flexible approach to their job role. This may be suitable for candidates who are considering a career in teaching and the School Direct Programme.

Ashmole Academy is a high performing and heavily oversubscribed local comprehensive school in North London, situated near Southgate Underground Station.  The school prides itself on maintaining a high level of mutual respect between students and all staff. We celebrate diversity and have been awarded a Gold Equalities Award as a recognition of our commitment to equality.  In our most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was judged to be strong in all seven areas, reflecting the high quality of education, leadership and student experience across the school. We are also proud to have been awarded the Gold Equalities Award, recognising our commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as the Pupil Excellence Award.

The successful candidate will enjoy:

  • A focus on wellbeing led by a wellbeing committee, promoting activities such as golden week, subsidised yoga and individual support programmes as required

  • A two-week October half term

  • High quality CPD

  • Flexible working opportunities

  • On site Starbucks

  • Weekly opportunities to get involved in staff sports such as badminton and football

  • Opportunities to be part of national and international trips including destinations in Europe and USA

  • Paid lunch duties with a free lunch

  • A very active social committee

  • Free daily tea and coffee at break

  • Over 150 car park spaces
