Salary: £22,000 a year

Higher-level Assistants are required at Overstone Park Independent School in Northampton on a permanent basis, starting in June 2024.

 

To provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of (SEND) children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential or access the curriculum.


To work with a range of pupils but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages, including:


  • Children with special or medical needs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Children with a statement of special educational needs
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of daily lesson plans
  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to students who need additional help
  • Helping to create a safe and engaging learning environment
  • Preparing instructional materials and resources
  • Assisting with classroom management and behavior management strategies
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other staff members to ensure student



To predominantly be education-based but will have a wider remit including working with families and the wider community.


To work with children on a one-to-one basis or in small or large groups, acting as a:

  • Listener
  • Mentor 
  • Facilitator for learning
  • Encourager
  • Motivator
  • Role model


Core Purpose:

  • Working with pupils' additional needs and behaviour has a significant impact on their attainment.
  • To support the ethos of the school.
  • To improve progress and achievement by helping to minimise barriers to learning and maximise pupil participation.


Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Level 2 or 3 in childcare or Health and social care
  • Training is offered.
  • Experience: Three years of working with children or within the care sector.
