About Ravenfield Primary Academy

"Pupils love coming to this school” (OFSTED inspection, 2023)

Our Academy is an inspirational place to learn. We welcome children and their families into our friendly and hardworking learning environment which is underpinned by our core expectations of respect for others and positive attitudes towards work and behaviour.

Staff at Ravenfield Primary Academy ooze passion and commitment to children and families. They are skilful, dedicated and relentless about meeting the needs of all children to ensure they can achieve success. They work tirelessly to remove barriers to learning, ensuring learning is accessible for all. All staff go above and beyond for children and their families; they offer an extensive range of extra-curricular activities to nurture children’s interests.

“Leaders want pupils to have a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom. These many opportunities are part of the school’s ‘curriculum guarantee’.” (OFSTED inspection, 2023)

At Ravenfield Primary Academy, we believe it is important to make learning memorable. Our vision is to deliver exceptional experiences that enable all young people to thrive in a competitive world and lead successful and fulfilling lives. All stakeholders are passionate about supporting all our children to achieve the very best that they can and in turn prepare them for the next stage of their education journey.

Staff support children to acquire skills to develop them into well-rounded citizens. Our six Core Learning Characteristics underpin everything we do:

  • We are responsible
  • We are knowledgeable
  • We are kind
  • We are confident
  • We are a team player
  • We are resilient

To achieve our vision and prepare our pupils for the future, we aim to provide a rich, broad and creative curriculum for FS1-Y6, which motivates and inspires our children and encourages them to be actively involved in making choices about their learning. The foundation subjects are studied through topic-based themes and cross-curricular links are made wherever possible. Topics have been developed with an emphasis on global culture and cover the traditional subjects of history, geography, music, art, design and technology and P.E. as well as beliefs and faiths from around the world. Knowledge is built upon each year and opportunities to revisit learning is embedded into the curriculum.

“In lessons, teachers make regular checks on pupils’ knowledge. They often revisit and remind pupils of previous learning, using questions and books which include records and photos of past work” (OFSTED, 2023)

At Ravenfield Primary Academy, we frequently discuss and reflect upon our curriculum. We adapt our plans to meet the context of the school, the changing needs of children/society and interests of our children. At the beginning of each topic, we encourage the children to talk about what they already know. Reading and oracy underpin a lot of our curriculum, as we value the importance of children being able to articulate their learning.

“Throughout school, pupils behave extremely well. In lessons, they are attentive and engaged”. (OFSTED, 2023)

The children of Ravenfield Primary Academy are our greatest asset: they make the school what it is. Children are respectful, hardworking and keen. They have positive attitudes to learning and behaviour is excellent. Together with supportive families, and strong community relations, they enable staff to ensure every learning opportunity is maximised. We hope you will want to join our fabulous school.
