Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide alternative provision for our disaffected students who need help overcoming barriers to learning, where behaviour/attendance issues are a concern.

In addition, the role will also involve providing support to students with a whole range of special educational needs.

The successful applicants will join a team which believes that all students are entitled to quality teaching in a safe and caring environment and are committed to excellence for all.

 

Hours of work: 37 hours per week. (32.5 hours may be considered)

Salary: Grade 7, Points 12 – 19 (Meridian Trust)

Full time equivalent annual salary £24,496 to £27,852

Actual annual salary £21,104 to £23,995 for 37 hours, term time plus training days (39 weeks).

 

The Opportunity

  • It will involve planning and delivering Maths, English and Science lessons to students either in small groups or one-to-one.
  • It will include adapting and planning curriculum with departments.
  • To maintain effective records in order to support the APDR/IAEP process.
  • Supporting data input, exam processes and entering exam grades.
  • Accompanying students on offsite educational visits.
  • Supporting and mentoring students not only with their academic progress, but also their personal development.
  • Supporting SEN students across whole school when not engaged with alternative provision.

  • Able to build effective working relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to work as part of a team responsible for supporting the process of teaching and learning.

Sawtry Village Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in Cambridgeshire, serving students from the age of 11-18. The school, situated in Sawtry, Huntingdon, has over 900 students on record.

Sawtry Village Academy was awarded conversion to academy status in 2011 and  joined the the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) in 2015.  In February 2022, we announced a voluntary merger with the Cambridge Primary Education Trust (CPET) and to mark the merger and the growth of the Trust, we announced a new name, Meridian Trust.

In September 2023, Sawtry Village Academy was inspected by Ofsted which graded us GOOD across all measurable categories with an OUTSTANDING Post-16 provision.

It has clear systems in place for supporting and challenging school leaders to ensure high standards for all pupils.
