GEMS World Academy Switzerland (GWAS) is an international school that was founded in January 2013 and opened its doors in September 2013. In addition to being an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School, we benefit from belonging to the GEMS global network of award winning international schools.

The school has an enthusiastic and dedicated team of highly-skilled classroom and specialist teachers, who create personalized and challenging learning opportunities to develop the children’s critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation and independent learning skills. Currently, we are looking for:

History/English Teacher

Fixed contract CDD 100% 2 years’ contract
Beginning of the contract: August 15th, 2017

General Mission

  • Seeking a well-qualified and experienced History teacher to teach IB DP History and some MYP History. The ability to teach English in the lower years of secondary school is also desirable.
  • International and DP teaching experience would be a great advantage
  • Commitment to excellent inquiry-based learning, and a desire to motivate, engage and bring out the best in all students.

Requirement:

  • Deliver the required curriculum; demonstrating accurate and up to date knowledge of curriculum and subject matter
  • Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students. Create and utilize appropriate materials and the classroom environment to cater for different learning styles.
  • Show written evidence of planning and preparation on request. Establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans etc.
  • Set and mark work. Assess, record and report on the academic development, progress and attainment of students and use assessment to ensure the curriculum meets the individual student’s needs.
  • Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students on educational matters.
  • Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
  • Assist in the planning and organizing of school events and functions (eg inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc).
  • Communicate and meet with parents regularly; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor degree or Higher degree
Qualified Teacher degree
International experience strongly desired in IB
Minimum of 3 years teaching experience

Skills:

Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, French and other language is a plus
Good office management skills and good knowledge of MS office tools
