Options Trent Acres School is currently undergone development and has increased its pupil numbers from 30 to 100 over the past two years, due to this the job roles advertised are new as part of this development and it is an exciting time for the School.

The school is situated on a 12 acre site and is purpose built, modern and welcoming with a range of specialist learning areas including an indoor and outdoor riding area and outdoor gymnasium and our pupils have the opportunity to work with the animals on site (horses, donkeys, goats, reptiles, chickens, chinchillas to name but a few) and learning outside of the classroom is a fundamental part of life at Options Trent Acres School. We have a dedicated team of staff who are focused on delivering high quality, child-centred, bespoke packages of education for all pupils.

The School is within easy reach of Stoke, Derby, Telford, Stafford, Lichfield, Burntwood, Rugeley, Cannock, Burton-on-Trent, Tamworth, Uttoxeter and surrounding areas.

Job Purpose

Responsible, under the direction of the teacher or school leaders to teach specialist parts of the curriculum to individual pupils, small groups or whole classes. To support access to learning for pupils and to provide general support to the teacher or school leaders with regard to the management of pupils in and out of the learning environment.

Experience

  • To have an understanding of the National Curriculum and assessment standards in your specialist area
  • To have taught children in an education environment
  • Ability to use a computer to use Microsoft Office packages, predominantly Word, Email
  • Able to engage appropriately with pupils, adults and develop rapport
  • Able to recognise conflict and challenging behaviours with pupils and willing to address behaviours once trained
  • Able to engage in a variety of teaching activities to support the teacher and to deliver teaching and learning in your specialist subject
  • Be willing to work towards Higher Level Teaching Assistants Award and have appropriate experience, along with GCSE Grade C in English and Maths or Functional Skills L2 in English and Maths, or equivalent
  • Willingness to gain HLTA status with 12 months of appointment to access above pay spine minimum
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills

Trent Acres provides a wide ranging curriculum which is tailored to meet the needs of each individual pupil. Pupils are able to work to nationally recognised educational awards in a broad range of subjects. Pupils are able to access Animal Husbandry using our onsite facilities, Horticulture and outdoor activities education. Where appropriate we seek to source work experience placements for pupils. The service also seeks to build links with local schools and colleges which enable us to provide further education opportunities for our pupils.

Many of the young people who come to Options Trent Acres have either experience a fragmented education or have not attended School/ College for a long period of time. Many of our students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs/Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which will detail and identify their needs.
