Job overview
Term Time Only
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people?
Do you have the energy, empathy, and skills to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and additional needs?
Do you have a passion to help empower pupils to thrive through learning, mentoring, and positive engagement enabling them to reach their full potential?
If so, you could be the person for us!
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the SEND Team at Haybrook College Trust and make a real difference in the lives of some of Slough’s most vulnerable young people. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed HLTA to join us as soon as possible, or by September 2026 at the latest.
Haybrook College Trust is an Alternative Provision (AP) academy supporting pupils across Slough, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and surrounding areas who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. We also run a small special school for pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Our Ofsted report (January 2025) recognised that we “rapidly build positive and trusting relationships with pupils. This means that pupils’ needs are quickly known by staff and well met. As such, most pupils achieve very well.”
Working within an AP or specialist setting is highly rewarding, varied, and different from mainstream. Delivering planned 1:1 interventions allows you to build strong, meaningful relationships with pupils and make a genuine impact on their educational and personal development.
About the Role
This HLTA post sits within the College’s SEND Team but will be based at Millside Special School, delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based 1:1 interventions for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
These interventions form part of pupils’ statutory provision and may include:
Basic literacy and numeracy programmes.
Handwriting and fine motor development.
Social‑skills interventions.
ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support) sessions.
Lego Therapy.
Delivery of sensory diets and targeted sensory regulation activities.
This is a hugely varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who is passionate about meeting the needs of pupils with SEND. Training, including ELSA training, will be provided for the right candidate if not already qualified. Previous experience delivering interventions or working with pupils with SEND would be highly advantageous.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
A skilled HLTA or experienced support professional, confident in delivering structured interventions.
Passionate about supporting pupils with a range of SEND, including SEMH and sensory needs.
Able to work 1:1 with pupils who benefit from predictability, nurture and structure.
Energetic, resilient and adaptable, with strong problem‑solving skills.
Compassionate, patient and emotionally attuned to pupils’ needs.
Confident communicating with teachers, parents and external professionals.
A strong team player who can contribute effectively to a multidisciplinary setting.
A background in mainstream, special school, or alternative provision settings would all be suitable.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver a range of evidence‑based 1:1 interventions as outlined in pupils’ EHCPs.
Work alongside the SEND Team, Head of Centre and class staff to ensure provision is effective.
Track and record pupil progress, contributing to reviews and reports.
Support pupils to develop key academic, emotional, social and sensory skills.
Maintain excellent communication with parents and outside agencies.
Follow all school and Trust policies relating to safeguarding, SEND and behaviour.
Closing date 9am, Friday 20 March 2026.
Haybrook College is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all of its students and staff. Applicants will be required to undertake a DBS enhanced disclosure. Haybrook College strives to be an equal opportunities employer and recruits from all sections of the community solely on basis of ability to fulfil the job requirements.
